Exploring a little more of the Grand Strand today! 🌴

Today’s stop was Pawleys Island, SC — and what a beautiful little piece of the Lowcountry!

Pawleys Island is one of the oldest summer resort communities on the East Coast, with a history dating back to the early 1700s. The island itself is less than four miles long, bordered by the Atlantic on one side and beautiful salt marshes on the other.

What struck me most today was how peaceful it is. Wide beaches, gorgeous coastal homes, dunes and a completely different feel from the busier areas farther north. Pawleys is known for its laid-back, unpretentious character — affectionately described for years as “arrogantly shabby.” It’s also the birthplace of the famous Pawleys Island rope hammock, which dates back to 1889.

And of course, we had to investigate the shelling. 🐚 I’d say we did okay. See last photo. 😁

One of my favorite things about living on the Grand Strand is getting out and exploring all of these different coastal communities. Each one really does have its own personality — and Pawleys Island is definitely worth exploring!
