On this day in 1796, Tennessee became the 16th state in the Union. After the Revolutionary War, North Carolina claimed all of the land that would eventually become Tennessee. The settlers who moved there were not satisfied with how North Carolina was running things, so, when North Carolina sold the land to the Federal Government to pay off debts, the settlers tried to form a state—the State of Franklin.

However, the Federal Government never formally recognized the State of Franklin. Later on, when more people moved to the area, they tried again. With the Constitution then in place, there were finally clear steps to statehood, and George Washington gave his stamp of approval to make Tennessee an official state. Happy 230th birthday, Tennessee.

The answer (almost always) is YES. In Tennessee, Mediation is required for all divorce cases unless the Court applies a specific exception. Examples of exceptions include a history of domestic abuse, existing orders of protection, default judgments against one party or the other, inability to pay for mediation, and even prior settlement efforts.

If you or a loved one are facing divorce and the possibility of Mediation, make sure to get your questions answered by an experienced divorce lawyer.
