Six years ago today, I took a leap of faith and decided after twenty years, it was time to hang out my own shingle, during Covid. I do love a good challenge. 🙂

I still have the best job. I still have the best clients.

Thank you so much for your support! I am grateful beyond measure to be of service to my hometown, which is incredibly important to me.

Dorothy was exactly right. “There’s no place like home.”

I’m looking forward to being of assistance to you for many more years!

So proud to be voted “Best Attorney” in the 2026 Community Votes of Murfreesboro for the third year in a row!

With the exception of three years in Mississippi for law school, I have lived in Murfreesboro since I was born.

I’m proud of my community and grateful to be of service to the best clients for the past 26 years!

I love Adoption Bookend Weeks!

I finalized an adoption on Monday in Cannon County before one of my favorite judges, Judge Fann, and I finalized another adoption this morning in Bedford County before one of my other favorite judges, Chancellor Cox.

No better way to start and end the work week.

I loved getting to start my week off with an adoption! Today’s adoption involved a grandmother adopting her grandson. The biological parents consented to voluntarily terminating their parental rights so that Grandmother, who has had the child in her care for years, could adopt.

The significance of all the emotions involved in parental consents is not lost on me. These parents deserve grace and dignity in what is often an incredibly painful decision, even though it is best for the child.

Little Mister has been safe, loved and protected by Grandmother for years. That will never change, nor will the only home he’s really ever known. He’s had stability and as of this morning, he has permanency forever.

That feeds my soul and reminds me that I continue to be aligned with my life’s purpose. This isn’t just my job. These families aren’t cases. They are blessings to me and the kids they love.

Best career ever! ❤️ ⚖️

After careful consideration and deliberation, congratulations to Savannah Silva for winning the “Name My Porch Goose” contest and a $50 gift card to The Alley on Main!

Many thanks to everyone who participated. Your suggestions were so creative, and I loved them! The competition was tough. I made lists, complete with highlights and notations, to narrow the options-all the things you’d expect from a family law attorney. 😎

Dolly Honkton is dressed in her patriotic best in preparation for the country’s 250th birthday in a few weeks. 🇺🇸 🎉

Today’s adoption involved a “first” for me. I finalized a stepparent adoption for a wonderful family. I could have talked to the grandmother all day. She was a hoot!

The “first” was the Judge telling me to step on a chair (that didn’t have wheels on the bottom) for a better vantage point to take pictures from my phone of the family behind the bench.

The Judge extended his hand because me in heels climbing things at my age can be risky, and he made sure I was steady the whole time. I loved it. Never stood on the Court’s furniture before. Looking forward to getting to do it again soon for the next adoption. 🙂

I still have the best job ever!

I had the great privilege of finalizing one of two adoptions on my schedule this week. There is something significant to be said about a “stepped up”stepfather who wants to assume the legal rights and responsibilities that another man refused.

We made him “official” this morning for the sweetest little girl whose smile lights up the room.

It’s an amazing feeling to be in a courtroom when the Judge grants an adoption for my clients. Can’t wait to do it again on Thursday, Lord willing.

I was blessed with the chance to finalize a stepparent adoption this afternoon for a wonderful family! The adoptee, who is 12 and had been wanting his stepdad/now official dad to adopt him for the past two years, learned that the family was headed to court to do just that ON THE WAY TO THE COURTHOUSE!!! How cool is that?!

It was a wonderful surprise. The entire family is amazing. It’s indescribable how much of a blessing it is to be a small part of the adoption process for them.

Questions about adoptions? Let’s talk!
