Today we’re honored to recognize Paula Yost, a passionate advocate for children, families, and local philanthropy whose deep roots in Cabarrus County continue to make a lasting impact on our community. 🌟

Through her work as an attorney, mental health professional, community leader, and philanthropist, Paula has dedicated her life to strengthening support systems for vulnerable children and families.

From serving for more than 13 years on the county’s Child Protection and Fatality Team to providing seed funding for the Ann Benfield Early Childhood Fund at the Greater Cabarrus Foundation, Paula’s leadership reflects her belief that investing in children early helps build stronger communities for generations to come. 💙👶📚

We are grateful for Paula’s commitment to collaboration, child advocacy, and local giving, and for the many ways she continues to invest in the future of Cabarrus County. 🙌

Today is Law Day — an annual commemoration held on May 1 to celebrate the rule of law, the idea that no person is above the law, and to encourage a deeper understanding of the legal system.

This year's theme is “The Rule of Law and the American Dream.” The ABA encourages everyone to reflect on what role the rule of law plays in the American Dream.

We had a second birthday this week at the Country Law Shack. Robin Starnes is truly one of the nicest people I’ve ever met. She is instrumental in our adult guardianship cases where she literally helps me take care of the elderly. If she doesn’t know something, she will work hard to figure it out. Robin is a wonderful friend, wife, and mother. We are so thankful for her.

Tomorrow is a big day.

Walter Austin is turning 60.

Walter was my first employee. I hired him when Pratley was an infant. He has helped me grow this firm every day for over twelve years. As employees have been added, he is a father figure to every single person in the office including me. He is a friend to my friends. He fixes everything when it is broken. We are all convinced that the internet doesn’t work unless he is in the office. Over the years, he has held my babies while I worked. For about 90 days, he and I ran a law firm with Pierson on a heart monitor that went off far too often. He also got the insane call from me the day I almost died of preeclampsia to make sure he could lay hands on my will. He has seen me at my best and at my worst. Every year, he makes a huge pot of vegetable beef soup for my birthday. We are having Cabarrus Burger Madness for his.

We literally do not know what we would do without him. Last year, he had a cancer scare that I just couldn’t process at the time and I’m so thankful to God that he is fine and that this day is happening with him in good health. Please work for me until you’re 70.
