Did you know a new law went into effect on July 1, 2025 in South Caroline allowing a vehicle owner to make a TOD (“Transfer on Death”) designation for vehicles? This allows for a vehicle/boat to pass to a designated TOD beneficiary upon an owner’s death without going through probate administration. The TOD beneficiary does not have any ownership during the lifetime of the owner. Some folks will find this option to be very useful as part of their estate planning.

Be sure to discuss if this option is right for you with an experienced estate planning lawyer.
