Research shows that how parents handle a divorce has a greater impact on children than the divorce itself. By reducing conflict and promoting collaboration, National Child-Centered Divorce Month seeks to break the cycle of trauma and build healthier families post-divorce.

It highlights the importance of putting children’s needs first when parents go through a divorce or separation. The goal is to educate, support, and empower parents to make divorce decisions that minimize emotional and psychological harm to children. It promotes peaceful, respectful co-parenting and helps families focus on long-term well-being instead of conflict.

Here at April Phillips Consulting, we help parents build a healthier future for their children. By combining legal guidance with emotional sensitivity and ethical advocacy, such firms can be crucial in reducing the trauma of divorce and helping families move forward constructively.

Here are a few Key Objectives -

1. Prioritize Children's Needs
- Encourage parents to keep the child's emotional and mental health at the center of all decisions.
- Recognize how conflict, custody battles, and lack of communication affect children negatively.

2. Provide Resources and Support
- Offer free resources from family professionals, including therapists, coaches, and mediators.
- Promote educational materials, webinars, books, and articles focused on child-centered divorce.

3. Encourage Peaceful Co-Parenting
- Advocate for respectful communication and shared parenting responsibilities.
- Discourage using children as pawns or messengers between parents.

On Tuesday night, I ended my night in a Police Car. You heard that right…..

Co-Parenting with Purpose

After an Emergency Hearing regarding long distance timesharing and one parents refusal to comply with the Court Order, which mirrored my recommendation for the other parent to have Summer timesharing, I was asked by the Court to supervise the timesharing exchange (with a Child Pickup Order in Hand) at the airport in an effort to ensure the parent and children would catch their flight on time and fly out of Florida. Let’s just say it didn’t happen that way. Five and a half hours later, with multiple threats made directly at me by one of the parents, we had the children exchanged (begrudgingly), and the amazing and patient Police Officer that assisted with the exchange put me in his patrol car, and got me safely back to the other side of the airport so that I wouldn’t be alone after a long and stressful event.

One of the greatest gifts a parent can give their child is the freedom to love both parents without guilt or conflict. In family law, we often see the emotional toll that divided homes can take on children — but it doesn’t have to be that way. It is critically important for parents to actively support and encourage a healthy, happy relationship between their child and the other parent (barring safety concerns). This not only fosters emotional security and stability, but it teaches children resilience, compassion, and the value of healthy relationships.

Children do best when they are shielded from conflict and uplifted by both parents. Even when it’s hard, making the effort to co-parent with respect and intention makes all the difference in a child’s life.

🐾 Dogs in the Workplace? We Say YES! 🐾

At April Phillips Consulting, we’re strong believers in the emotional and mental health benefits that dogs bring to the workplace. From reducing stress and boosting morale to encouraging movement and connection among team members, our furry friends do more than just nap under our desks — they’re part of our support system!

🐶 Studies show that dogs in the office can increase productivity, decrease anxiety, and foster a happier, more connected work environment. We’ve seen firsthand how a wagging tail or a quick cuddle break can turn a tough day around.

April Phillips has three French Bulldogs that come into the office regularly – Bote, Bella, and Bentley! As a matter of fact, Bentley (the Creamy Frenchie) is a Therapy Dog who works with April in her Guardian Ad Litem cases. Bentley helps calm children when they must talk to April about stressful or traumatic events. The kids love his smaller size and his “give love” command which tells Bentley that he can allow the child to hug on and snuggle with him.

That’s why we proudly support a pet-friendly culture at April Phillips Consulting. Because when our team feels calm, supported, and emotionally balanced, we’re better equipped to serve our clients with compassion and excellence. 💼❤️🐕
