In line with WVU's commitment to the It's On Us campaign we have developed a student sexual assault and power-based personal violence first responders program, WVU Peer Advocates. In Fall 2015, the training for this program transformed into a 3-credit academic class. Collaborating with the Center for Service and Learning, Title IX and RDVIC just to name a few, the course offers students a minimum
of 60-service learning hours for working to end sexual violence on our campus. The purpose of the course is to provide students with a solid foundation to respond and advocate for student affected by sexual assault and power-based personal violence. Some of the course goals include:
• Have an understanding WVU's commitment to improving power-based personal violence reporting and recovery on and off campus.
• To be familiar with policies and regulations around sexual and power-based personal violence, Title IX, Clery and Violence Against Women Act (VAWA).
• Introduce students to service-learning and the academic impact of civic engagement. The class meets Mondays in the Fall and Spring from 6:00-8:50pm.
