Calling all Women’s Section members! We could use your help.

Our charitable wine bucket auction raises money for scholarship recipients every year. If you would like to donate bottles of wine or accessories for the raffle, please bring them with you to Point Clear. If you are not attending but would like to make a donation, our personal shopper in Fairhope will be happy to pick up wine/accessories on your behalf.

If you are attending the annual meeting we could also use all hands on deck setting up for the auction Friday afternoon and conducting the auction Friday from 6:30 to 8:00 pm.

Call/text/email Elizabeth Smithart to volunteer. 334-850-2838 or [email protected]

In 2016, Judge Montgomery was the first winner of the Susan Bevill Livingston Leadership Award winner. Know a qualified servant leader? Nominate her for the award! Nominations are due to [email protected] on March 15.

The Women’s Section honored Merceria Ludgood, our 2019 Maud McLure Kelly Award winner, at a luncheon during the Annual Meeting last Thursday. Celia Collins introduced Commissioner Ludgood, and then we enjoyed the honoree’s inspiring remarks.

The Maud McLure Kelly Award, named for the first woman admitted to practice law in Alabama, is presented each year by the Women’s Section to a female attorney who has made a lasting impact on the legal profession and has been a pioneer and leader within the state. Congratulations to Commissioner Ludgood, our very deserving recipient!

If you know of another worthy candidate for this award, keep your eyes on your email this fall for nominating instructions.

Cumberland School of Law is seeking our next CLE Director. JD required, experience in CLE seminars preferred: https://samford.hiretouch.com/job-details?jobID=837&job=director-continuing-legal-education
Today's feature is Catherine Dunn Moncus, an attorney with Walton Law Firm, P.C.
*********************************
A native of Alexander City, Catherine is a personal injury attorney at Walton Law Firm in Auburn. She is also the current secretary of the Women's Section of the Alabama State Bar. Her colleague's nomination letter reads, "Catherine is very successful; however, her biggest achievement is the relationship that she builds with her clients. Virtually every client raves about Catherine's down to earth presence, her kindness, her patience, her empathy and her willingness to go above and beyond to make sure the client or families understand what can be a difficult and confusing process. Catherine is an excellent attorney, but at her core, Catherine is a relationship-builder, giving the profession a better reputation along the way."

Each day of March, we will spotlight a female attorney whose passion for the law and helping others set a foundation for the countless rising women lawyers to come.

Have a special story to share? Send us a message with email address, and we'll contact you for more information!
I love what you all promote, I think to have a just, justice system there needs to be equal representation so thank you for promoting that! I recently had the opportunity to watch a documentary that served as a huge advocate for women’s equality in pay, politics, and life in general called The Revolution Generation: How Millennials Can Save America and the World. It celebrates moments in history like in 2018 with the historic amount of women being sworn into Congress, the Women’s March, and more. It also explains a new movement of youth ready to make change, including AOC and Greta Thunberg. It is directed by Rebecca and Josh Tickell who are largely passionate about the advancement of humankind and the preservation of our planet and peace. It is set to be released in April, and I highly recommend checking it out, especially if you are an advocate for women and minority equality and justice. Here’s the trailer!

Apollo Counseling is offering a 10-session Caregiver Therapy Group for Adult Caregivers of Other Adults via secure Zoom link on Tuesdays at 5:30-7:00p.m. on October 5th-December 7th, 2021. See flyer for full information and sign up details.
We’re kicking off the Midyear Meeting with a Judicial Brunch hosted by the Women's Section of the Alabama State Bar!
We love this new Alabama Women's Suffrage Centennial Patch Program launching in 2020 for the Girl Scouts, sponsored by the Women's Section of the Alabama State Bar, 19th Amendment Task Force and the Birmingham Bar Association's Women Lawyers Section

What a great way to honor the spirit of the anniversary by teaching young girls to be vocal about the changes they want to see while learning about the determination of the women of the suffrage movement.
