I’ll give you 3 things you should know before making the move.

✅ #1 People are polite, but guarded. You won’t become best friends with your barista overnight, but give it time. Trust builds slowly here. Show up consistently, at school pick-ups, neighborhood walks, or community events, and you’ll find your people.

✅ #2 Life moves slower, but it’s full. You’ll see people walking their dogs early, grabbing coffee in hiking boots, heading to farmers markets or local trailheads. It’s not hustle culture. It’s intentional living.

✅ #3 Each part of the county has its own rhythm. Bethesda feels different than Olney. Kensington has a totally different energy than Takoma Park. Once you find your neighborhood, it starts to feel like home.

This is the debate I keep having with myself lately, land and privacy, or a real community.

Some days I want five acres, trails, windows everywhere, total quiet. Other days I want neighbors down the street, kids running between houses, someone to wave to on a walk.

I don’t actually have this figured out. I go back and forth constantly. And I think it’s less about the land itself and more about what season of life we’re in right now.

Okay this one’s a little more personal than my usual posts, so bear with me.

I’ve moved 19 times in my life. Nineteen. We’re renting right now, and I told my husband I have one more move left in me within the next couple of years, we’ll buy, and then I am done. No more moving until our boys are grown and out of the house.

So when a client tells me they’re scared of getting this move wrong, I’m not just nodding along. I’ve been there in ways I wish I hadn’t.
