Our immigrant stories didn’t begin with us. 🤎

They began with the people who had the courage to leave what they knew, start over, and build something they hoped would create more opportunities for the generations that followed.✨

As the daughter of immigrants, I know my own story was shaped by those sacrifices. And as an immigration attorney, I have the privilege of witnessing that same courage in the families I serve every day.

Our stories belong in the history of this country. Our cultures, businesses, work, families, and dreams have helped shape America, and will continue shaping what comes next.🫶🏼

We are part of the story. And we are part of its future. 🦋

Los Angeles would not be the city it is today without its immigrant community. 🤎

They are caring for our families, building our homes, opening businesses, creating jobs, and helping keep this city moving every single day.✨

As the daughter of immigrants and an immigration attorney in Los Angeles, I see these contributions differently. They aren’t just statistics to me. They represent people, families, sacrifices, dreams, and generations who have helped shape the city we call home.🫶🏼

Immigrants aren’t standing on the sidelines of Los Angeles.

They are part of its foundation. Its growth. And its future. 🦋

And that is a story worth telling.👏🏼

There was a time when many of our parents and grandparents felt pressure to make themselves smaller, to change the way they spoke, shorten their names, leave traditions behind, or simply try to fit in.

But the very things that once made some of us feel different are the things that carry our history. 🤎

Our accents tell a story.
Our names carry generations.
Our traditions connect us to where we come from.
And our stories deserve to be heard.

We should never have to leave pieces of ourselves at the door in order to belong.

We belong exactly as we are. 🦋

Hispanic Heritage Month is a reminder that so many of the opportunities we have today began with someone else’s sacrifice.

A parent who started over. A grandparent who worked tirelessly. A family that held onto their culture while creating new possibilities for the generations that followed.

We honor them by remembering where we come from, celebrating how far we’ve come, and continuing to create opportunities for those who come after us.

Their sacrifices became our opportunities. Our dreams will become the next generation’s possibilities. 🤎

Today, as we celebrate Mexican Independence Day, I find myself thinking about the generations who carried Mexico with them while building a life somewhere new. 🇲🇽

They brought their traditions, their language, their food, their music, their work ethic, and their dreams. Many started over with very little, working toward opportunities they hoped their children and grandchildren would one day have.🤎

As the daughter of immigrants, that story is personal to me.

I know that so much of the life I have today was made possible because of the sacrifices of those who came before me. And through my work, I continue to meet families who are making those same sacrifices for the next generation.✨

Today is a celebration of Mexico, but it’s also an opportunity to honor the incredible legacy Mexican immigrants have created in this country.

To those who came before us, those building their lives here today, and the generations who will carry our culture forward—this celebration is yours, too. 🇲🇽🤎

¡Viva México! 🇲🇽

There’s a narrative we hear far too often: that immigrants come to this country and only take from it.

But that narrative leaves out a very important part of the story. Immigrants are working. They’re paying taxes. They’re contributing to Social Security and Medicare. They’re supporting local economies and helping fund the same schools, roads, and public services our communities depend on.👏🏼👏🏼

And yes, that includes undocumented immigrants too.

The numbers in this post matter because facts matter, especially when misinformation is being used to shape the way we see an entire community.

But this isn’t about proving that immigrants deserve to be here because of how much they contribute financially. Human dignity should never have a dollar amount attached to it.

It’s about making sure the full story is being told. And our immigrant community deserves to have its full story told. 🤎
