đź“‹ Can I legally carry a firearm in California?
It's one of the most searched questions in the state — and the answer is more nuanced than a simple yes or no.
We've published a comprehensive, fully cited legal FAQ covering every major carry question California gun owners are asking in 2026: CCW requirements, open carry status, sensitive places (with a current enforceable vs. enjoined breakdown), vehicle transport, hunting and fishing exemptions, FOPA safe passage, CCW obligations, school zones, employer policies, and what to do if you're denied or cited.
Every answer cites the applicable Penal Code section or case law. No fluff.

🚨 SECOND AMENDMENT VICTORY IN THE EAST BAY! 🚨
The California Rifle & Pistol Association (CRPA) has successfully resolved the issue: the East Bay Regional Park District has agreed to amend its Employee Residence License Agreements to allow lawful possession of fi****ms in on-site employee homes.
No more blanket ban where employees live as a condition of their job. This protects CCW permit holders and law-abiding Californians’ constitutional right to keep and bear arms in their residence.
Thanks to resident Grant Boysen, attorney Jason A. Davis, CRPA President & General Counsel Chuck Michel, and the full team.
At Cal Gun Lawyers we fight every day so you don’t have to. This is how real change happens.

🚨 BIG WIN for California gun owners! Two law-abiding citizens just secured a $75,000 settlement against a former California State Park Ranger after an unlawful two-hour detention and illegal seizure of their fi****ms.
They followed every law for unloaded & secured storage… yet were hit with bogus charges (unlawful transport → assault weapons + large-capacity magazines) that were later dismissed. The Davis Law Firm fought for nearly two years to clear their names, restore their reputations, retrieve their guns, and hold the ranger accountable.
This settlement sends a clear message: Law enforcement cannot treat lawful 2A exercise with indifference or hostility. Second Amendment rights are NOT optional.

Why the DOJ’s 925(c) Fi****ms Relief Rule Is Taking Time — And Why That’s Normal

If you are a client, a potential client or you work with clients who lost federal firearm rights because of a past conviction, mental-health adjudication, or other disqualifier under 18 U.S.C. § 922(g), you’ve probably been watching the Department of Justice’s new rule on relief from disabilities (18 U.S.C. § 925(c)). What the Rule Is About For decades, § 925(c) has let the Attorney General restore federal firearm rights to people who can prove they are not a danger to public safety and that relief is in the public interest....

🚨 SECONDARY LIABILITY REJECTED 🚨
Today the U.S. Supreme Court delivered a major victory for the fi****ms industry in Cox Communications v. Sony Music Entertainment.
In a unanimous ruling, the Court held that simply providing a lawful product or service — even with knowledge that some people may misuse it — is NOT enough to create secondary liability.
This decision directly reinforces the core protections of the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (PLCAA) and mirrors last year’s landmark Smith & Wesson v. Mexico ruling. Gun manufacturers and sellers cannot be held liable for the criminal misconduct of third parties simply for doing lawful business.
Knowledge alone is not liability.

California’s AB 1127 and the Pawn Shop Predicament: Unintended Consequences of the Convertible Pistol Ban

Introduction: A New Era in California Firearm Pawn Regulation In October 2025, Governor Gavin Newsom signed Assembly Bill 1127 (AB 1127) into law. Effective July 1, 2026, the bill adds Penal Code section 27595, prohibiting licensed fi****ms dealers from selling, offering for sale, exchanging, giving, transferring, or delivering "semiautomatic machinegun-convertible pistols." These are defined under the new PC 16885 as semiautomatic handguns with a cruciform trigger bar that can be readily converted into machineguns using a simple "pistol converter" (commonly known as a G***k switch)....

Ninth Circuit Strikes Down California’s Urban Open Carry Ban in Landmark Second Amendment Ruling

In a pivotal decision released today, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit has partially invalidated California's stringent restrictions on the open carry of fi****ms, declaring the state's ban on open carry in urban counties (>200,000 population) unconstitutional under the Second Amendment. The case, Baird v. Bonta (No. 24-565) (Opinion attached below), pits individual gun rights against state regulatory authority in the wake of the Supreme Court's 2022 ruling in…...
