For an emergency kit or plan, it’s helpful to keep copies of important documents in a waterproof, portable folder or secure digital location.

Documents to consider including:

* Driver’s licenses or other photo IDs
* Birth certificates
* Social Security cards
* Passports
* Health insurance cards and medical information
* Home/renter’s and auto insurance policies
* Deeds, leases, or mortgage information
* Bank and financial account information
* Medication lists and prescriptions
* Emergency contacts and family information
* Pet vaccination and medical records
* Copies of wills, powers of attorney, and other important legal documents

Tip: Keep copies, not necessarily the originals in your emergency kit. Consider storing encrypted digital copies on a secure device or cloud account as a backup.
