Rick Soliman and his brother Shawn were the original SmokeHunters BBQ Team. The origin of the team name comes from Shawn and Rick's enjoyment of waterfowl hunting and their love of smoking wild game. In 2008, Shawn could no longer spend weekends at competitions, so Jim Rohr, Rick's father-in-law joined the team. In 2012, Jim D. Rohr, Rick's brother-in-law was recruited to the team. Since 2012 the

team competes under the parent company The Smoke Hunters, Inc. based in Plainfield IL. The Smoke Hunters have won individual meat category titles in several competitions and have 5 Reserve Championships and 3 Grand Championships to date. In 2013, The SmokeHunters Inc. expanded operations to Louisville, Kentucky where Thomas and Jennifer Willis; Rick's brother and sister in law are the newest additions to the team. The Smoke Hunters Competition BBQ Team competes in six states - Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Michigan, Missouri and Kentucky - and manages a Catering division in northern Illinois.

Day 2 is in the books! This was our first contest this year and 12th year at the Westmont Red White and BBQ Contest. Out of 60 professional teams we finished today with a 2nd place Ribs and 2nd place brisket. Earning us 4th place overall. Congrats to Grand Champion ROOTERS-N-TOOTERS TN

Had a great cook at the Sam’s Club National Championship in Bentonville, AR. The Smoke Hunters earned 11th place chicken, 1st place Smithfield ribs with a 180, 15th place Smithfield Pork, and 41st Brisket (ouch). For a 9th place overall. Congrats to Rocky Top Barbeque on RGC and to Que’n Stew’n & Brew’n for winning GC and $50,000!!! The biggest payday in BBQ! Also a thanks to Darren and Sherri for organizing a great chicken dinner Friday night.

We have cooked our way to the finals in Bentonville Arkansas!

Congrats to Lucky' s 19 on their first GC, Rich Parker IBQ'n for his Reserve Grand. And all the other teams advancing.

We finished with a 4th Chicken, 3rd Ribs, 26th Pork, and 4th Brisket. For a 6th Overall.
