Attorneys, are you looking to find your Power Zone? Most attorneys build their careers by accident, taking on whatever comes their way, saying yes to everything, and hoping a practice they love emerges. Register now for HCBA's new interactive 3.5-hour CLE session on Dec 10th, designed to give you a different starting point: intentional design.

Drawing on the Power Zone framework from "The Power Zone Playbook for Lawyers," you'll identify the work that energizes you and adds the most value, start shaping a professional niche around it, and leave with the beginnings of a plan to build a practice on purpose rather than by default. PRESS RELEASE: Hennepin County Bar Association Welcomes Norman Pentelovitch and New Leaders for 2026-2027 Bar Year

The Hennepin County Bar Association (HCBA) welcomes Norman Pentelovitch as the association’s 108th president. Norm's year-long term began July 1, 2026.

"I am honored to lead the HCBA at a moment when the legal profession, and the communities we live in, are looking to bar associations for leadership on the most critical issues facing our society. More than ever, bar associations are seen as apolitical, professional organizations advocating for the principles and standards of the legal profession. I look forward to continuing HCBA's leadership in this community."

Norm, who will be joining a leading international law firm as a partner in their Minneapolis office, has been an active member of the HCBA since 2017, and a member of the association’s board of directors since 2019. He is a graduate of The Georgetown University Law School and The George Washington University, and is admitted to practice in Minnesota, New York, and Washington, D.C. He previously worked for preeminent national trial firms, and was most recently Director and Assistant General Counsel, Enterprise Risk Management, at 3M.

For the 2026-2027 bar year, Nicholas M. Ryan (President-Elect), Ryan McCarthy (Secretary/Treasurer), and Jessica Klander (Past President) will serve alongside Pentelovitch on the HCBA executive committee. Austyn Boothe will serve a one-year term as New Lawyers Section representative for the committee.

"Before law school, I guided canoe trips through the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness and Quetico Provincial Park. A month in canoe country has a way of stripping life down to its essentials. Your world becomes small and immediate: Where are we headed? Is there weather coming? What are we making for dinner?"

In the final column of her presidency, HCBA President Jessica Klander shares three principles from her time as a guide that she applies today to her legal practice. Many of our members have reached out looking for ways to help immigrants and community members who have been harmed by recent ICE actions. We've worked with our member partners at various civil legal aid organizations and compiled this non-exhaustive list of opportunities for attorneys to use their skills to help.
