I’m excited to share that last night I was reelected as Vice President of the Monticello Economic Development Authority.

It’s been a real honor to work with such a great group of people who care deeply about the future of our city. Monticello is a growing and vibrant community, and the EDA plays an important role in helping that growth happen the right way — supporting local businesses, attracting new opportunities, and making sure our city remains a place where people want to live, work, and invest.

Economic development is really about the people and businesses that want to make Monticello their home. I’m looking forward to another term working alongside our local partners and community members as we keep moving things forward.

On behalf of the Minnesota Eminent Domain Institute, I will be submitting an amicus brief to the Minnesota Court of Appeals on the topic of the payment of attorneys fees in eminent domain cases under Minnesota Statute 117.031. That statute is an extremely important safeguard against governmental abuse of the eminent domain process. In this case, the Minnesota Department of Transportation is seeking to limit the reimbursement of attorneys fees under that statute, which would have a chilling effect on the ability of property owners to retain competent legal counsel in cases where their property is being forcibly taken from them. If you want to learn more about that case, please check out my latest blog entry.
