The Friends of the Millsboro Public Library have a gem of a fund-raiser scheduled for April of 2024. In past years, the Friends have focused their fund-raising efforts on the annual July book sale, a much anticipated and enthusiastically attended event. The Friends sincerely thank the public for its participation in this book sale.
Now, the Friends have decided to expand their efforts by offering a "Jewelry Extravaganza". This event will be held on April 11, 2024, from 3-7 (Preview Night for Friends Members; memberships available at the door and start at $5), April 12 from 10-4 and April 13 from 10-2, at the Library (217 W. State St., Millsboro) in the new annex.
To prepare for this event, the Friends are seeking donations from the public for gently worn, fine, costume and vintage jewelry. These pieces will be sorted, cleaned, bagged and sold in $1, $2, $3, $5 and $10 categories. There will also be a crafter's table with jars of broken jewelry, beads, stones, chains, single earrings, etc. Cash, checks and credit cards will be accepted.
In addition, there will be a silent auction table. One example of an item up for bid is a black lacquer Oriental jewelry stand artistically decorated with mother-of-pearl.
There is a jewelry safe inside the library. Donations can be deposited into this safe, secure box until March, 2024. Donations need not be bagged or boxed - just drop them onto the safe and the Friends will do the rest.
Start cleaning out your closets, drawers and jewelry boxes! Items you no longer want can be donated to a very worthy cause. The Friends have made significant contributions to the Library's enrichment and children's programs, including the Summer Reading Program, which has included speakers, demonstrations and performances. The Friends have also contributed to the bookshelves and cabinets in the new annex and to the purchase of e-books.
