Some of the most important estate planning tools are also the simplest.
A Durable Power of Attorney allows a person to appoint someone they trust to manage financial and legal matters if assistance ever becomes necessary. While the document itself may seem straightforward, its impact can be significant.
Without a properly drafted durable power of attorney, even close family members may not have the authority to handle financial transactions, manage assets, or carry out important planning strategies if someone becomes incapacitated. In those situations, families may need to pursue guardianship through the court in order to obtain legal authority to act.
In our latest blog, we explain how this document works and why it is a critical component of any comprehensive estate plan.

On Memorial Day, we remember those who gave everything in service to our country.
We honor their courage.
We remember their sacrifice.
And we hold space for the families and friends who continue to feel that loss.
Today, and always, we remember.

What would happen if you were suddenly unable to make your own medical decisions?
Many families assume loved ones can automatically step in to help. In reality, without proper planning, medical providers may need to rely on default laws to determine who can make decisions — and those laws may not reflect your personal wishes.
In our latest blog, we explain several important tools that help individuals maintain control over healthcare decisions.

What happens if you become unable to make decisions and there’s no plan in place? Your family may have to go to court.
Without documents like a durable power of attorney or advance health care directive, loved ones often need to pursue adult guardianship just to manage finances or make medical decisions.
Planning ahead lets you choose who steps in and avoids putting your family through that process.
Learn how adult guardianship works in Delaware and Maryland, and how estate planning can help you avoid court involvement and protect your family.
