The HS&S team had a wonderful time at the Connecticut Legal Conference yesterday.

We are proud supporters of the hashtag and of the Connecticut Bar Association. It was great to see the hashtag come together in one place.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to drop by our booth and say hello to David, Julie, and Marissa. We loved catching up with our referral partners, meeting new ones, and discussing how we can support your litigation needs.

Yesterday HS&S partner Gary Phelan joined Melissa in the Morning on WICC to discuss workplace conflict.

Did you know a recent study showed that the number one reason people call out of work is due to conflict in the workplace? In the interview, Gary discusses when conflict crosses the line into illegal workplace misconduct - and when it doesn't.

Should Connecticut value workplace silence over workplace safety? In her Connecticut Mirror op-ed, Partner Erica Oates Nolan outlines why passing Senate Bill 355 is imperative for protecting CT workers.

Senate Bill 355 would invalidate NDAs designed to cover up workplace harassment and discrimination. NDAs have been used by the powerful to silence victims for far too long. Erica urges legislature not only to pass the bill, but to look at it critically.

Doubtful of the administrative remedies victims must seek through the CHRO, Erica argues that NDA-related claims should proceed directly to court as they do at the federal level.

For young women in law, a strong mentor can help shape a life-long career. Associate Catherine Ingersoll knows this first-hand. Now she has her own wise words for young women pursuing litigation.

Catie is an accomplished associate attorney in her own right, shaped by the women who’ve mentored her along the way.

“I believe every woman in the legal field brings something unique to the table. I have learned something valuable from every woman I have met along the way.”

At HS&S, Catie finds inspiration watching and learning from her colleagues Julie and Erica. To her, they embody what it truly means to be a powerhouse attorney. In a world where so many women feel torn between a career and motherhood, she’s happy to work alongside women who show her she can have it all. Catie also credits Garrison Law associate Meaghan Kirby as one of her early mentors, noting that Meaghan encouraged her interest in employment law and mock trial. She is continually inspired by her friends, who push each other to learn and grow.

Now, Catie wants to pay that mentorship forward. She urges young women entering law, particularly litigation, to trust themselves and to use their voices.

“Trust yourself and do not be afraid to use your voice. Your instincts are often right, whether you are offering a new perspective on case strategy that others may have overlooked or making an objection in court.”

Catie also wants young women graduating from law school to know that the legal field is a broad one. Changing direction in your career isn’t weakness, it’s growth.

“There are many areas of law you may not have encountered yet. If you feel drawn in a different direction than the path you are currently on, do not be afraid to take the risk and make a change."

We are happy to spotlight Catie for Women’s History Month. Inspired by the women who came before her, she now aims to inspire those who come after her.
