Our Connecticut community has recently lost a beloved member, Darik Pearson, to prostate cancer. Darik was the lead singer of Darik and the Funbags, a popular Connecticut band that has performed across the Northeast since 1997.

He battled the disease for six years, fighting hard until the very end. To honor his memory and raise awareness for prostate cancer, our Milford HQ will be blue tonight. Our hearts go out to Darik’s family, friends, and everyone who has been affected by this disease. 💙

October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month, and today, October 15, is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day. To honor the lives lost, we’re supporting March of Dimes by joining the global Wave of Light, and lighting our Milford HQ purple in remembrance of the babies and pregnancies lost too soon. One of our followers suggested we recognize this day in honor of her own personal loss a few years ago. We’re grateful she shared this with us and proud to do something meaningful in memory of her loss and all the families who have experienced similar heartbreak. If you’d like to support families this month, March of Dimes is matching donations 2x throughout October. Your support helps fight preventable maternal health risks and deaths, reduce preterm births and infant deaths, and close the health equity gap so every family has the opportunity for a healthy start. In honor of National Hero Day, we’re proud to celebrate the North Haven Fire Department and the incredible work they do for our community! Their dedication goes far beyond responding to fires. From conducting fire demonstrations to educating their local community about fire prevention and safety, they work every day to help keep our community prepared and protected. Most recently, our support helped them acquire a new machine called a Skid Steer. Attorney Alex Mario met with North Haven Fire Department Fire Commissioner Peter Criscuolo for a live demonstration showing how this machine will help their team save lives. We’re proud to support the North Haven Fire Department and grateful for the courage, preparation, and dedication they bring to our community every day!

For National Fire Prevention Week, Deputy Chief Scott Bisson of the North Haven Fire Department walked us through a live laptop fire simulation, demonstrating the dangers of lithium-ion battery fires. This year’s theme, “Charge Into Fire Safety™, Safe Charging Is a Superpower,” focuses on everyday charging habits for items like laptops, phones, e-bikes, and power tools that can help reduce these risks. We were also joined by Quinnipiac University for the simulation, which took place in a mock dorm room to highlight fire safety in student housing. The team also emphasized “Close Before You Doze,” reminding us that closing your bedroom door before bed can help slow the spread of a fire. We’re proud to support the North Haven Fire Department and their continued efforts to educate our community and help keep us safe! 🚒💻
