When there is any activity on the deed to your property, it often times triggers direct mail to you. This direct mail tries to sell you things like a copy of your deed, for $99.00 or more. Your deed, in most cases, is readily available for FREE. There are also many services out there that offer to monitor the activity on your deed for a fee. Many of the registries of deeds in Massachusetts (including Essex South) offer this service for FREE. Just call the customer service line at your local registry and they will set you up for FREE e-mail alerts. Wishing you all a very safe and Happy Spring.

A friend posted the other day with a profound saying. The post was a screen shot of a plaque, which read: "I still remember the days I prayed for the things I have now." A few days later, another friend posted a saying about how you should be careful when mentioning to someone (in relation to their trappings of success), that "It must be nice".....because maybe you aren't aware of their personal sacrifice.

Of course, "it must be nice"! That's why it's so important to protect all those people that you love and those things that you enjoy so much.

Having a solid estate plan is a great way to safeguard your legacy and make sure that all those things you've worked so hard to achieve are protected.

Happy Spring and I hope you and your families are staying healthy and safe.

Where've 'ya been? Nothing could compare to those favorite sayings that your friends and family like to say. They stick with you, don't they? Where've 'ya been? came to mind, as I noticed that I had not posted since right after Thanksgiving, last year.

It has been a real honor to help people with estate planning, family law, real estate and most recently, mental health law. It's been fun having the fire department, literally, right under the window of the office. It has caused me to hit the mute button while on Zoom hearings with the court, more than a few times!

The masks are great and I love how they cover the fact that you are singing in public to the music playing, wherever you happen to be! I hope that you are staying healthy and safe. I am honored to have your referral to family and friends and appreciate the trust you have in me. Best wishes to you in the new year.

"She said yes" It's holiday season and love is in the air! Billboards are everywhere with magnificent diamond engagement rings. Thoughts of marriage proposals become especially popular at this time of the year.
Every year, throughout January and into early February, the Probate and Family Courts are inundated with Complaints for Divorce. Marriage is a very serious commitment and a decision that should not be entered into lightly.
However, it is possible to decide up-front what would happen to your assets, should the euphoria of being together come to and end. These are called prenuptial agreements and they are legal in The State of Massachusetts. It is essential that all of your assets be disclosed at the outset and that the agreement is fair and reasonable, both at its signing and when it eventually becomes enforced.
Much like an insurance policy, a prenuptial agreement might be something you wish you had when you really need it. May you always feel the love and keep it going forever.

Timing is everything! Wow, can you believe it's November? What a year it has been.

With all the great occasions coming up, either in person or over the internet, now might be a good time to have some dialogue about important matters that you've been meaning to get done.

Have that discussion about estate planning. Talk about how the title to your real estate is being held. Notice how fast the kids are growing up. And....just like that, they are young adults with their own legal needs (Example: Healthcare Proxy--HIPAA Authorization).

Maybe, you don't even need to say anything. Maybe somebody will say something to you. Being a good listener could'nt be more important these days. That's why the cliche' "Timing is everything" is so important, especially right now. Things like family law issues (including mediation), estate planning, real estate and juvenile law, just to name a few.

Take time to care and have those important discussions. Wishing you a happy, healthy and peaceful Thanksgiving to you and those you love.
