🚲⚖️ Leesfield & Partners’ Founder and Managing Partner, Ira Leesfield, has admonished the lack of regulations related to the use of micromobility devices since at least 2019. Nearly a decade later, Florida lawmakers have crafted much-needed regulations and an exploratory task force to track crashes and other incidents that will go into effect on July 1 if signed by Gov. Ron DeSantis.

“It’s an unregulated problem, which is only getting exponentially worse, really exponentially worse,” Mr. Leesfield told ABC7’s Juliana Narvaez.

Leesfield & Partners continues to protect the most vulnerable. Recently, Partner Justin Shapiro and Trial Attorney Evan Robinson obtained a $2 million result for a sexual assault. This follows the recent conclusion of a series of sexual abuse cases on behalf of four young men victimized by clergy, resulting in a confidential resolution.

The firm’s commitment to representing victims of sexual abuse includes an $8.6 million multi-plaintiff recovery for the predatory behavior of a children’s summer camp counselor. Leesfield & Partners cooperated in the federal trial and conviction of this camp employee. The firm obtained multi-million-dollar reparations for the multiple victims of a predatory teacher at a prestigious Florida high school.

The firm is currently lead counsel in a video voyeurism case in which a crew member planted hidden cameras in passengers’ private cabins, recording adults and children.

Several ongoing cases include:
- The sexual assault of a local teen by a school security guard
- A child who was sexually assaulted by a man in the pool of a Florida resort
- A woman who was emotionally scarred after she was leered at by a worker while in the shower at a luxury Florida hotel.

Ira Leesfield, the firm's Founder and Managing Partner, recently appeared on podcaster Harry Gottlieb's "Pillars of the Community" with Miami's Community Newspapers to discuss safety reform related to e-bikes. 🚲

"The uncontrolled and unregulated 'plague' of e-bikes is something that is impacting and impairing everyone's quality of life," he said. "I want to emphasize that I am not against progress, technology, or any other form of transportation that advances people's community life, but if these two-wheel vehicles are being used recklessly, there's two categories, at least, of danger. One is the danger to the pedestrian ... the second in that order is the dangers to the operators themselves." 🛴

Leesfield & Partners has filed a lawsuit on behalf of a minor who was sexually assaulted by a security guard at her Miami private school.

This lawsuit represents a catastrophic failure to protect a vulnerable child despite warning signs of predatory behavior. No student should be subjected to abuse by someone placed in a position of trust and authority.

Partner Justin B. Shapiro and Trial Attorney Bernardo Pimentel II are pursuing accountability for our client and her family.

Last week, Founder and Managing Partner Ira Leesfield and Partner Justin Shapiro attended the school's Class Night ceremony to present the second annual Dexter Butler College Scholarship to senior James Osborne. Joined by Anita Butler and her family, they were honored to recognize James — a standout student-athlete whose commitment to his community reflects the kindness and generosity that defined life and legacy of Dexter "Coach Dex" Butler.

The evening was a meaningful celebration of achievement for the area's graduating seniors. To cap off the event, Mr. Leesfield and Mr. Shapiro proudly showed their Conch pride in specialty shirts featuring the school's logo.

Courtroom Session V: Anatomy of Trials and Appeals ⚖️

On May 28, attorneys, judges, and legal professionals gathered in Key West for the final session of Courtroom's inaugural 2025–2026 season. Held at First Flight Island Restaurant & Brewery, "Anatomy of Trials and Appeals" provided an engaging discussion on advocacy, appellate practice, and the principles that define excellence in the courtroom.

We were honored to welcome our guest speakers: Chief Judge Edwin A. Scales, III and Chief Judge Richard J. Suarez (Ret.) of Florida's Third District Court of Appeal. Their insights and experience offered a fitting conclusion to a year dedicated to professional development, mentorship and courtroom excellence.

Thank you to our faculty, participants, and guest speakers who made this first season such a success, and to the outstanding staff at First Flight Island Restaurant & Brewery for their hospitality.

As we close this chapter, we also remember Justice R. Fred Lewis, whose vision and commitment to legal education helped inspire this program. His dedication to professionalism and mentoring the next generation of lawyers remains at the heart of the Courtroom Trial Advocacy Series.

The mission continues. Courtroom returns this October as we build on the foundation established during this inaugural year.
