Are you tempted to go this route? I cannot say how many times I have been asked to correct mistakes, expensive mistakes, made by individuals who thought that they could get a quick, cheap divorce by just "filling out the papers." You get what you pay for. Engage an experienced attorney to handle even what you deem to be an "easy" divorce. You'll be the better for it.

Parents of children born out of wedlock don't realize that a birth certificate DOES NOT establish paternity or confer rights onto fathers. Fathers, especially, place their parental rights at risk when the proper steps are not taken to secure those parental rights. It's sad and expensive to have to undo those mistakes and right those wrongs.

It’s difficult when one has to advise a client that their efforts to protect “their” assets from their spouse were not effective, even if the spouse was aware and in agreement at the time. Generally, assets acquired during the marriage are marital assets subject to equitable distribution regardless of title. Simply titling a piece of property, a bank account, a brokerage account, etc. in your name does not protect that asset from any claim by your spouse during a divorce.
