KTT was thrilled to welcome Judge Robert Scola, Jr. to the table as part of our Lunches with Legends summer tradition! As it turns out, some of Judge Scola’s best advice for effective lawyering is refreshingly simple: Act with integrity. Be prepared. Be nice. And give back.

We’re grateful for his time, his wisdom, and the reminder that great lawyering starts with getting the fundamentals right.

KTT was pleased to host another Breakfast with Judges this morning with Judge Paul Huck and Judge Cori Lopez-Castro. The judges shared valuable advice with law clerks, on professionalism, civility, and building a successful legal career. KTT law clerks, Paola Calleyro and Joanna Salvat, attended along with summer clerks from various law firms. We are grateful for the Judges’ time, insight, and commitment to mentoring the next generation of lawyers.

At Kozyak Tropin & Throckmorton, founding partners John Kozyak, Harley Tropin, and Charles Throckmorton began their litigation careers under the guidance of now Senior U.S. District Court Judge Paul C. Huck. They continue to proudly regard Judge Huck as both a mentor and a friend.

Each summer, Judge Huck hosts his Federal Court Observer Program, where law clerks have the opportunity to observe a mock hearing and hear from experienced panelists and this year he generously extended the invitation to KTT’s Clerks. Paola Calleyro, a rising 3L at the University of Miami School of Law, and Joanna Salvat, a rising 3L at Florida International University College of Law, had the opportunity to participate and observe the mock hearing. Both described the program as an outstanding and meaningful experience, offering valuable insight into the practice of law and the judiciary.

We are delighted that Paola and Joanna were able to take part in this longstanding tradition and benefit from Judge Huck’s continued mentorship of the next generation of legal professionals.

KTT Partners Bernice Lee and Dwayne Robinson have each dedicated years of service to helping shape the practice of law in Florida. Last week, at The Florida Bar Annual Convention, both marked the culmination of their year of service as Chairs of two of the Bar’s most influential standing committees.

As Chair of the Federal Court Practice Committee, Bernice led efforts to strengthen the practice of law in Florida’s federal courts while serving as an important bridge between Florida lawyers and the federal judiciary.

As Chair of the Appellate Court Rules Committee, Dwayne guided the committee responsible for reviewing, developing, and recommending updates to Florida’s appellate court rules to help ensure a fair, efficient, and effective judicial process.

Their leadership reflects KTT’s longstanding commitment not only to exceptional client advocacy, but also to advancing the legal profession through meaningful service. Congratulations, Bernice and Dwayne, and thank you for your dedication to Florida’s legal community.

Another significant appellate victory for KTT! Thanks Law360 for the great coverage. The Florida Third District Court of Appeal affirmed class certification for more than 140 residents displaced by the devastating New World Condominium fire in Miami Gardens, allowing their claims to move forward together as they seek accountability for the losses they suffered.

KTT's Dwayne Robinson and Abe Andrew Bailey successfully defended the trial court’s certification order on appeal, with the court recognizing that the class was defined using objective criteria and that the residents’ shared claims are appropriately resolved through a class action.

“This is an important victory for more than 140 residents who lost their homes, possessions, and sense of security overnight,” Abe tells Law360. “The appellate court recognized that these claims belong together, bringing those residents one step closer to holding the responsible parties accountable.”
