We got here the beautiful Biscayne Bay of Miami 🏖🛥 but our favorite body of water was once called, ➡️ “Sandwich Gulf” ⁉️🥪 Yup, that’s a head scratcher right there! 🤔 In 1763 When the British took over Florida from the Spaniards for the first time, they renamed all the Spanish Landmarks with more English sounding titles. 🇪🇸 So the original name, Biscayno, was changed. 🏝🌴 Here’s where it gets even more interesting, the word “Sandwich” wasn’t even popularly used yet for the food staple. 🤷‍♀️ It originated from the “Earl of Sandwich” ➡️ Earl being a noble man and Sandwich was a town in England. 👑 🇬🇧 The 4th “Earl of Sandwich” really liked to Gamble along with some other vices. 🎲♦️♠️ Apparently, he would order beef between two slices of toast bread since it was a meal he could eat with his hands to keep playing cards. 🥖Needless to say it caught on like wildfire and the sandwich was born. 🔥 P.S. in case your wondering yes is named for him as well!
