Union moms do it all: raise families, care for others and fight for dignity on the job. This Mother’s Day, we honor the working mothers who never stop showing up for their loved ones, coworkers and communities.

It’s Public Service Recognition Week – a time that we reflect on the essential work that AFSCME members do. Whether responding to emergencies, taking our kids to school, keeping our streets and drinking water clean or caring for the sick, public service workers are the backbone of our communities. They deserve respect and dignity for all they do. This week, we extend our deepest gratitude to all those who dedicate their lives and careers to helping others, and we commit to always continuing to fight for the strong public services our communities deserve.

Good afternoon! We are excited to report that the turnout for our recertification election has been strong so far. But, with all the changes that our union has gone through over the past few years there is some confusion on who can vote.

- The current election is for the General County Employees unit and not employees of the constitutional offices.

- Employees of those offices have recertification election for just their units. In fact, the Supervisor of Elections and Sherriff’s Office units have both overwhelmingly won their elections.

- Anyone in the General County Employee unit can, and should, vote today or tomorrow. It is not just for AFSCME members. Voting does not impact your membership status in any way. Voting AFSCME YES indicated you want a contract with your employer, simple as that. In fact, the larger the turnout the better - we are aiming for more than half of our unit to vote!

- This vote is not run by our union. It is run by the State of Florida and all voting must be done in person. There is no online voting available.

- If you haven't voted yet, you can do so today from 1:00pm to 4:30pm at the Miami-Dade Public Works Conference Room – 1Floor in Doral. Tomorrow is the LAST day to vote. You can vote 8am to 11am at the South Dade Govt. Center Conference Room/Suite 101 in Cutler Bay or from 1pm to 4:30pm at the Miami-Dade Animal Services Conference Room - Visionary Center in Doral.

Thank you for turning out to vote, and getting a coworker to vote as well! If you have any questions just call the union hall at (305) 805-1075.
