Sometimes what someone inherits is not money sitting neatly in an account.

It might be a property that needs repairs.

A business that needs someone to step in.

A collection that has significant sentimental value but little financial value.

Or an asset that comes with ongoing costs and decisions.

An inheritance can create responsibility just as easily as it can create wealth.

The question isn't only, "Who gets it?"

Sometimes the better question is, "What are they actually receiving?"

If your estate includes anything complicated, we can help you think through the practical side of the plan before it becomes someone else's problem.

Some of the most important decisions in life start long before you realize they are decisions.

Looking back, the things I learned early about problem-solving, business, and working with people still influence how I approach the work today. ⚖️

The law is never just about the documents. It is about understanding the problem behind them and finding a way forward.

That is the part of this work I have always found most rewarding.

Your family may know where you keep the house keys. They may know where you bank. They may even know where your important documents are.

But what happens to everything that exists behind a password?📱💻

Knowing an account exists isn't the same as having the legal authority to access it.

If your estate plan covers your physical assets but says nothing about your digital life, there may be a gap worth addressing.

Want to make sure your plan accounts for both? We can help. Visit RilusLaw.com to schedule a consultation.

What actually happens to your Apple iCloud account and all those photos when you're gone? 📱

Digital assets aren't just online bank accounts. They include your cloud storage, personal data, and digital memories.

With a Digital Asset Trust, you get to leave specific instructions for your digital footprint:
▪️ Share the memories: Copy family photos and files down to your children.
▪️ Protect your privacy: Order specific accounts or photos to be permanently deleted so private files don't get out.

Digital asset planning ensures your information stays protected according to your exact wishes.

Ready to protect your digital legacy? Let's build your plan. 🤝

Buying a house or moving in with your partner? Don't skip the legal side of cohabitation. 🔑

Most couples focus on mortgage rates and floor plans, but they forget what happens legally when two lives merge under one roof.

Without a clear plan, default state laws step in. Standard community property rules might not fit your financial goals, and unmarried partners living together can accidentally create legal property rights over time.

The 2-Step Fix:
1️⃣ Update your estate plan to reflect your new living situation.
2️⃣ Put a cohabitation agreement in place to explicitly clarify who owns what.

Clear boundaries prevent future legal headaches.

Questions about cohabitation agreements or estate planning? We're here to help.

We all think we'll remember. Until five years pass. Or ten. Or life gets busy. Or the person who knew everything isn't around to explain it anymore.

You don't need to organize your entire life in one afternoon.

But you do need a system that makes sense to the people who may eventually have to navigate it. Start with one thing your family would need to know.

When it comes to the important legal documents, we're here to help. 🙏

A trust isn't the only way to keep assets out of probate.

Some assets already have their own instructions for what happens when you die. That can include jointly owned property and accounts with a named beneficiary.

And here is the part worth checking: those designations need to line up with the rest of your plan. An outdated beneficiary designation can tell a very different story from the one you intended.👀

Before assuming your estate plan covers everything, review your beneficiary designations and make sure they still reflect what you want.

Probate is not always a one-size-fits-all process.

Sometimes, families hear the word "probate" and immediately picture courtrooms, attorneys, months of paperwork, and a long process. But Arizona has different paths depending on the size and type of the estate.

The small estate process can be a much simpler option when the estate qualifies. The important part is knowing whether it qualifies and which process applies.📋

If you are dealing with a loved one's estate in Arizona, we can help you determine the right path and what comes next.
