As we come to the end of 2022, we are grateful for being able to provide services to children and families. Our future is still uncertain at this time. We have not found another office space, and have taken these last few months to consider various options.

When a child's fear center, the amygdala, is activated a child goes into a state of self preservation--they try to protect themselves. This can cause a child to: lash out, run away and hide, shut down entirely, freeze, cry, yell, or lash out physically. These are hardwired responses for protection. To bring them out of this response, a child needs safety (emotional and physical), proximity, predictability, and empathy-- not punishment (which can escalate or cause the child to numb out). Discipline means to teach, but we cannot teach a child who is in a state of fear.

Our voice becomes our child's voice. Listen closely to the tone you use, notice your facial expressions, be mindful of the energy you bring to interactions. None of us are perfect parents, but we can strive to be mindful parents who are aware of how our interactions shape our child's reality.
