New Haven County Bar Association Welcomes Historic President
The New Haven County Bar Association proudly welcomes Elwyn Brewster Quirk as the first black female president in the organization’s history. Quirk’s appointment marks a significant milestone for the association, highlighting both its rich legacy and its commitment to diversity and inclusion.
Elwyn Brewster Quirk is an accomplished attorney based in Meriden, Connecticut. She has owned and operated her own practice, Law Office of E.B. Quirk, LLC, for nearly 15 years. Her practice primarily focuses on residential real estate closings and probate-related matters, serving clients with dedication and expertise.
Quirk has been a valued member of the New Haven County Bar Association since 2007. She has chaired the Meriden-Wallingford-Cheshire section of the Association, where she was instrumental in promoting events and activities for association members in the northern areas of New Haven County. Over the past several years, Quirk has also taken on leadership roles within the association and most recently as an officer on the Executive Committee.

In continuation of professional activities, I had the immense pleasure of putting together a panel of speakers to educate Meriden Public School students about the various professions one can pursue in the legal field. The last time I was able to do this for Meriden Public Schools was in 2014 and the last time I ran a panel was in 2017. My gratitude to the New Haven Bar Association for their support of me as the Meriden-Wallingford-Cheshire section chair of the bar association and to Marissa Cardona and Peter Civitello of Meriden Public Schools along with Principal Dan of Platt High School. Last but not least are the panelists Meriden Probate Judge Ariana Cenevia, Paralegal Iris Torres, Attorney Brian Daniels and CT State Marshal David Salafia. This past week and a half has been exciting for professional events starting with the Crawford Black Bar's 45th Annual Dinner in Hartford held last week Wednesday. After years of being a member I agreed to take on the role of secretary which was fulfilling and a lot of work. Like many functions of late, it was awesome to be back in person and celebrate the year's accomplishments.

Today I had the pleasure of joining in the Northeast Black Law Students 54th conference at Foxwoods Casino. I served as a judge for the final round of the Thurgood Marshall Moot Court competition and as a speaker panelist for the Pre-Law symposium in motivating and preparing students for law school and beyond. Best part was returning home to pick up my Minnie-me to drive back to the casino for the Awards Gala and dinner banquet. My hope was to inspire her as she sat in a room filled with black law students from all of the law schools in the Northeast, watching their achievements and accomplishments. A reminder of all that she can achieve even if it is outside the field of law. A reminder that she is unstoppable!
