Okay, this one is definitely me. 😂

My desk just got a little upgrade — the Logitech POP Bluetooth Mouse in purple. I totally bought it because it was cute. So far, I’m really liking it! It’s Bluetooth, comfortable to use, and it works with both Mac and Windows, which is a big plus for those of us who may work across different computers.

When you spend as many hours as we do producing transcripts, I say our hands — and our desks — deserve a little something fun, too. 💜

My steno-brain confession: I can’t just watch TV. I hear a word or phrase and immediately think about how I’d write it in steno.

Apparently, the steno brain never really turns off. 😊

Tuesday’s NCRA Empower seminar was centered on leadership in both our personal and professional lives. The speaker challenged us to think about leadership in a new way: not simply as leading others, but as leading ourselves well. He encouraged us to reflect on qualities such as honesty, a hunger to learn, and continual growth.

One of the most meaningful moments of the evening came from a simple but powerful question, in my words: “What brings you joy outside of your professional life?” That question really stayed with me.

We also shared in small groups what traits define a true leader. The words I chose were “integrity” and “empathy.” To me, those qualities matter deeply. Everyone brings their own perspective to the conversation, and that’s what made the discussion so impactful. There truly are no wrong answers.

I would strongly encourage all court reporters to sign up for this powerful seminar series. There are still four sessions remaining. The first session will be available to you once you sign up. Six years ago, I quietly stopped printing transcripts and went fully paperless.

At the time, it was just a practical shift. Now, it feels like one of those small decisions that really mattered: less paper, less waste, simpler systems. It’s a totally better way of doing things.

As Court Reporting & Captioning Week wraps up today, Valentine’s Day, I keep coming back to one word from this year’s theme, “love.”

Love is what keeps us showing up on long days, complex cases, and fast-paced realtime moments. It’s the commitment to accuracy, the patience behind every transcript, and the care we bring to making sure every voice is captured and heard.

Love shows up in the mentoring conversations, the shared tech tips, the encouragement between colleagues, and the way this profession supports one another through change and growth. It’s in the pride we feel when we know our work truly matters.
