Chicago gave me the kind of weekend I value most: meaningful professional connection, good food, beautiful weather and time to experience the city with friends.
The BESLA Chicago Regional Event was the reason for the trip, and it reminded me why spaces created for Black lawyers matter. Hearing Kevin Warren, President and CEO of the Chicago Bears, in conversation with Max Siegel reinforced the responsibility we have to listen well, lead with intention and use our influence to create opportunities for others. BESLA also put that commitment into action through financial awards and programming designed to support the next generation of Black lawyers.
That message connects deeply to my own work. Whether I’m advising creatives and influencers, supporting teams in technology, navigating government systems or counseling clients through complex deals, I’ve learned that access only becomes meaningful when it’s supported by relationships, information and people willing to open doors.
Outside of the event, Chicago offered the perfect backdrop. I walked to Navy Pier, explored Michigan Avenue, stopped at Starbucks Reserve, and visited the Obama Presidential Center.
I left Chicago grateful for the conversations, the community and the reminder that professional growth is often shaped as much by the relationships we build as the work we do.
