Text or email to verify information for package delivery.

What happens next is an attempt to solicit your credit card information or other personal data to “verify” your identity, supposedly to confirm that you’re the intended recipient of the (non-existent) package and expedite delivery.

The package delivery text or email ruse is basically a new twist on one of many “phishing” scams. They all involve tricking people into giving their personal information by pretending to be from a legitimate business.

Do not think you need to carry a balance to have a great credit score.
Many of my clients think you need to carry a balance. You do not, you need to use credit but paying it off each month after the statement closes is the best and cheapest way to establish credit history. You don’t even pay interest, if you have a grace period on the card you are using. Here is the best and cheapest way to use credit cards.

1. Put a small monthly bill on your card each month. Netflix, Hulu or something small and already in your budget.
2. Try to put nothing else on the card that you cannot pay off at the end of the month.
3. DO NOT let the balance go over 30% of your credit limit and if you can stay below 10% if you really want to increase your score.
4. Every month when the statement closes, and you get the bill, pay it in full and avoid paying any interest.

If you can stay with the plan you will have an excellent credit score over time, even after a bankruptcy.

USE YOUR GIFT CARDS!!

Bankrupt retailers that are closing their stores are in line to pocket millions of dollars in prepaid gift cards that might never be redeemed, WSJ Pro Bankruptcy reported. The COVID-19 pandemic has triggered a spate of retail-sector bankruptcies in recent weeks, including those of department-store chain J.C. Penney Co., luxury retailer Neiman Marcus Group Inc. apparel seller J.Crew Group Inc. and discount home-goods retailer Tuesday Morning Corp. As other retailers, such as Pier 1 Imports Inc., permanently close their stores, shoppers need to use their gift cards as soon as possible, experts say. Otherwise, the cards might soon be worthless. “The time to act is usually fairly quickly,” said Clint Krislov of Krislov & Associates Ltd., a Chicago-based firm that has represented holders of gift cards in the bankruptcies of bookstore chain Borders and specialty retailer Sharper Image. “But some people instead let the gift cards sit in that back drawer somewhere and don’t do anything about it.” Retailers that filed for bankruptcy and are shutting down stores usually give gift-card owners about a month to use them. All retailers have to receive court approval if they want to continue accepting gift cards in bankruptcy. About $2 billion to $4 billion, or up to 4 percent, of gift cards typically go unused every year in the U.S., according to research and advisory services firm Mercator Advisory Group Inc.

Millions of Americans Skip Credit-Card and Car Payments

Millions of people are behind on their credit-card and auto-loan payments, the latest sign of the coronavirus pandemic’s financial devastation, the Wall Street Journal reported. Lenders in April had nearly 15 million credit cards in “financial hardship” programs, such as deferral programs that let borrowers temporarily stop making payments, according to estimates by credit-reporting firm TransUnion. That accounts for about 3 percent of the credit-card accounts the company tracks, TransUnion said yesterday. Nearly three million auto loans were in these hardship programs, accounting for about 3.5 percent of those tracked. The numbers have surged from a year ago, when 0.03 percent of credit cards and about 0.5 percent of auto loans were in financial-hardship programs. The spike in unemployment caused by the coronavirus has strained people’s ability to make their monthly debt payments. To make matters worse, Americans were tapping credit cards and auto loans at record levels even before the pandemic to deal with rising costs and stagnant incomes.
