A lot of injured workers wait to call a lawyer until their checks stop.

By then, some of the problems are harder to fix.

If you got hurt, you're back at work, and your bills are being paid, you may not need us. We'll tell you that.

But if you need surgery, got an IME letter, or the insurance company just changed something, that's the time to ask questions.

Here's how to tell the difference: https://www.pahurtatwork.com/blog/do-you-need-a-lawyer-for-a-workers-comp-claim/

Many injured workers are told that a Pennsylvania workers’ compensation insurance company automatically has 30 days to issue payment after a settlement is approved.

That is not an accurate statement of the law.

In our new article, Mark R. Schmidt, Founding Partner and Certified Workers’ Compensation Specialist, explains:

• Why there is no automatic 30-day grace period
• What “prompt” payment means under Pennsylvania law
• When a delayed settlement check may expose an insurer to penalties
• Why the rule can also apply to late weekly benefits and Judge-awarded payments
• What injured workers should consider before accepting a settlement

Has your doctor recommended surgery after a work injury in Pennsylvania?

Surgery may affect your medical benefits, wage loss checks, work restrictions, return-to-work status, and settlement value.

But surgery does **not** automatically mean your case is worth a certain amount. The real issues are whether the surgery is connected to the accepted work injury, whether it is reasonable and necessary, how long you are out of work, and whether you are left with permanent restrictions.

We put together a guide for injured workers facing surgery after a work injury, including what to know about denied surgery, IMEs, nurse case managers, wage loss checks, and settlement timing.

Big news for injured workers in Pennsylvania! ⚖️

Schmidt, Kirifides, Rassias & Rio and founding partner Mark R. Schmidt continue to help shape Pennsylvania workers’ compensation law at the highest level.

Our new article explains how Mark’s Pennsylvania Supreme Court victory in Schmidt v. Schmidt, Kirifides & Rassias is still having an impact. In June 2026, the Supreme Court cited the Schmidt decision nine times in 700 Pharmacy, another workers’ compensation case involving medical treatment and pharmacy reimbursement.

The article also covers two recent Supreme Court cases where Mark authored amicus curiae briefs supporting injured-worker positions, including issues involving co-worker immunity and notice of injury.

Why does that matter?

Because these decisions affect what happens when an injured worker needs medical care, when prescriptions are delayed, when checks stop, or when an insurance company tries to limit responsibility after a work injury.

If your Pennsylvania workers’ compensation claim is being denied, delayed, or cut off, do not wait for the insurance company to decide what happens next.

Workers’ Compensation Checks Stopped? Here’s What To Do Next

If your workers’ comp checks suddenly stopped, it does not always mean your case is over. In many situations, the insurance company is trying to reduce or cut off your benefits.

This often happens after:
• An IME exam
• A doctor says you can return to work
• The insurance company files to suspend or modify benefits

The problem is most injured workers are not told what is actually happening or what to do next.

You may still have the right to:
• Continue wage loss benefits
• Challenge the decision
• Keep your medical treatment covered
• Negotiate a settlement

Timing matters. Waiting too long can hurt your case.

If your checks stopped, speak with a Delaware County workers’ compensation lawyer before you assume your benefits are gone.
