Stimulus checks have been issued to help with food, housing and other essential expenses, but creditors are pouncing on the funds to satisfy debts. Many Americans have court judgments and creditors can freeze a person's bank account putting the stimulus money at risk. Some states have passed laws to prevent this, but the Stimulus Act itself does not prevent creditors from executing on judgments and taking the stimulus funds. To avoid garnishment a debtor can file Bankruptcy to stop all legal actions, including the confiscation of all funds in your bank account including your stimulus check.
