Divorce: Who gets the house?
When a couple decides to separate, who stays in the marital home? For some, it makes sense for one to stay and the other to move out. If the couple cannot decide who stays, it may be necessary for one of the parties to seek exclusive possession of the marital residence. How can I settle my divorce without going to court? Most divorces do not require a court hearing, but every divorce requires legal documents to be filed with the Court. The Court has to issue the Divorce Decree. You and your spouse can decide how to handle the various aspects of your divorce and reach an agreement on those matters, instead of the Court deciding.

For more information on how to get your divorce and avoid a drawn out fight in Court, call PYYLAW at 814-337-7000.

Custody does not have to be battle. The best time to get a custody order is when everyone is getting along. You can agree to a custody schedule and have that schedule put into an enforceable court order, for when you stop agreeing.

For more information on how to get your custody agreement turned into a custody order, call PYYLAW at 814-337-7000.

Custody and divorce cases usually involve a great deal of mistrust and bad behavior. A party may think they will get some great evidence against the other side if they record a phone call or conversation, but doing so could land them in hot water. Generally speaking, it is illegal to record conversations secretly or without permission under the Pennsylvania Wiretapping and Electronic Surveillance Control Act.

Getting married or divorced? In a few easy steps, you can change your name to fully embrace the next part of your life. Changing your name after marriage is as simple as taking your marriage certificate and current IDs to the Social Security Administration for a new Social Security Card and PennDOT for a new photo ID. During a divorce, you can retake a prior name in just a few easy steps. You do not need to wait until the divorce is final.

Who are you? Believe it or not, some people do not know what their name is on their birth certificate. They have managed to live their entire lives being known by a name that was not their legal name. There was a time when schools, doctors, banks, and PennDOT did not require much to prove your name. Now with Real ID requirements, and sometimes for other reasons, people are discovering the truth about their identities. A legal name change may be the preferred way to straighten out these problems.

You can also change your name to something more reflective of who you are - like when Destiny Hope Cyrus legally changed her name to Miley Ray Cyrus.
