Houston Housing Market Update (April 2026) 🏡

More choices are showing up, and buyers are responding.

Here are the key April numbers from HAR:

Single-family homes sold: 8,196 (up 4.4% year over year)
Average price: $428,709 (down 1.4%)
Median price: $332,000 (down 1.6%)
Active single-family listings: 36,572 (up 6.5%)
Mortgage rates: 6.33% in April vs. 6.73% a year ago
Buyers purchasing a median-priced home paid nearly $100 less per month than last year (with 20% down)

Overall: homes are still moving, but rising inventory is giving buyers more options and a little more breathing room.
