The places we love most like the lake house, the beach condo, the family cabin, are where our people gather and where they'll feel closest to us later. A little planning now is what keeps those places a gift instead of a complication.

When every property you own is brought into one clear plan, your family can focus on the memories, not the paperwork.

That's the heart of what we do at JM Law. Link in bio when you're ready to plan for, protect, and preserve your legacy for generations.

Nearly 1 in 4 Americans haven't updated their will since the day they created it, so outdated contact details and old choices often sit unnoticed until they matter most. Keeping current information for your trustee, your successors, and your beneficiaries is one of the simplest ways to keep your plan ready. If it’s been more than 5 years since your last meaningful review of your estate plan, we can help. Schedule a Vision Meeting with our team to get started. Link in bio for more information.

Serving as a trustee is a job, not just an honor. Most people spend weeks deciding what goes into their trust, and only seconds deciding who will manage it, but that second choice is the one your family will actually feel.

A trustee has real responsibilities. They gather the assets, keep the records, file the paperwork, keep your family informed, and make distributions the way you intended. It is administrative, financial, and relational all at once.

So choose for temperament, not birth order. The best trustee is organized, steady, and fair under pressure, which is not automatically your oldest child - and sometimes isn’t even a family member. And have the conversation now, because telling your trustee about the role today saves your family confusion later.

Not sure the trustee you named is ready? A Vision Meeting is a calm place to walk through it together. Link in bio to get started.

The day your child turns 18, your legal access to their life changes. Most parents find this out when they actually need to act on it. A Healthcare Power of Attorney, HIPAA Authorization, Financial Power of Attorney, and Living Will give your family the legal ability to show up when it counts and give your student a foundation they'll carry well beyond college.

If you have a young adult in your family who just turned 18 or is heading to college, our young adult Protection Plan will get you set up.

Most people have a financial advisor and an estate attorney. What they don't always have is a conversation between them.

At JM Law, we think that collaboration is an important part of the job. We work alongside your financial advisor and CPA regularly because a plan that only lives on one side of the table isn't a complete plan.

Your financial future and your family's protection should be telling the same story.

If you'd like to talk about how that works in practice, we're here. Link in bio to schedule a consultation.

A beneficiary designation form is a legal document, which means it overrides your will, it overrides your trust, and it rarely gets updated when life changes.

Marriage. Divorce. A new child. A death in the family. Any of these can make an old designation a serious problem.

At JM Law, reviewing beneficiary designations against your estate plan is part of how we make sure your plan actually does what you intend. Members of our JM LAW CARES Program have this built into their annual review.

Two separate plans, drafted in two separate offices, reviewed on two separate timelines. It's how most families operate and it's exactly where gaps form.

Coordination doesn't have to be complicated… it just has to happen.

So if you're not sure whether your estate plan and financial picture are aligned, now is a perfect time to look into it. Reach out to our office directly or visit our website to start the conversation.
