We represented insurance companies for years before dedicating our practice to helping personal injury victims. The insurance companies know we are not afraid to try cases and that we routinely pick juries multiple times per year. We place an emphasis on thoroughly proving our clients' personal injury cases, liability and damages; and we have a particular interest in Traumatic Brain Injuries. In fact, we earned the seventh largest motor vehicle accident verdict in Texas in 2015 for a client who suffered a Minor Traumatic Brain Injury. We are dedicated to helping personal injury victims who have been hurt by the negligence of others in car accidents, commercial vehicle/18-wheeler truck accidents, motorcycle accidents, bicycle collisions, pedestrian accidents, drunk driving wrecks and other incidents involving wrongful death and catastrophic injuries.

Our fourth Fall 2026 Underdog Scholarship recipient, receiving $2,500, is Amelia Laing!

Amelia was diagnosed with bilateral retinoblastoma, a cancer in both eyes, at just three months old and is blind as a result. Throughout her education, she has had to navigate accessibility barriers that often require extra time, self-advocacy and finding solutions on her own.

When no one was available to teach her the screen reader software she needed for school, Amelia taught herself. She arrives at school more than an hour early each day to work through accessibility issues and has learned to advocate for herself while helping her teachers better understand what she needs to succeed.

Amelia plans to study chemistry at Wellesley College before pursuing a PhD and a career in research and academia. Her goal is to become a blind woman in STEM who helps create greater accessibility for those who come after her.

Our third Fall 2026 Underdog Scholarship recipient, receiving $2,500, is Jonathan Rackley!

Jonathan underwent open-heart surgery at just two weeks old and suffered a stroke afterward that left him with paralysis on his left side. Since then, he has spent 49 days in and out of hospitals for surgeries and neurological issues.

Despite the challenges he has faced, Jonathan has found ways to do what he loves, including playing tennis, basketball, pickleball and soccer. His experiences have shaped a mindset rooted in perseverance, kindness and the belief that difficult circumstances do not have to define him.

As Jonathan shared in his application, “You don’t have a disability, you have an opportunity.”

Giving back to our community has always been at the heart of the Burress Community Foundation.

Burress Injury Law and the Burress Community Foundation have given back $843,798 through our annual Charity Picnic and other community initiatives. Education is a major part of that commitment. Through our scholarship programs, we have awarded 97 college scholarships totaling more than $270,000 to students pursuing their futures.

That is why supporting McKinney Education Foundation through this year’s CEO Challenge is such a natural fit for us.

Our founder, Jason K. Burress, is proud to be part of this year’s challenge and help raise funds that directly support McKinney ISD students and educators.

Our second Fall 2026 Underdog Scholarship recipient, receiving $2,500, is Ava Williams!

At 16, Ava was involved in a devastating car accident that left her with eight fractures in her neck and spine, a collapsed lung and injuries requiring surgery. Her recovery meant months in a neck brace and relying on others for even the simplest daily tasks.

That experience ultimately inspired Ava to pursue nursing. Having experienced firsthand how much compassionate medical care can mean during some of life’s most difficult moments, she hopes to provide that same comfort and support to others.

After a year of recovery and appointments, Ava was medically cleared and returned to school, sports, work and volunteering with a new appreciation for life and a commitment to helping others.

Congratulations, Ava! We are proud to support you as you continue your education at the University of Arkansas and pursue a career in nursing! Woo Pig! 🐗
