SONG IN YOUR SOUL FRIDAY

Depression and anxiety can be crippling for those who suffer from it. I understand to well how crushing the weight of your own self-judgement can be. Just rising above isn’t so simple as it sounds, and we need a little grace.

This song is about that struggle, and it’s a banger as well. So, here’s to feeling out of place, and out of sorts. Here’s to being an astronaut in the ocean.

“Astronaut in the Ocean”
Masked Wolf

Lyrics

Astro-naut
What you know about rollin' down in the deep?
When your brain goes numb, you can call that mental freeze
When these people talk too much, put that s**t in slow motion, yeah
I feel like an astronaut in the ocean, ayy
What you know about rollin' down in the deep?
When your brain goes numb, you can call that mental freeze
When these people talk too much, put that s**t in slow motion, yeah
I feel like an astronaut in the ocean
She say that I'm cool (damn straight)
I'm like, "Yeah, that's true" (that's true)
I believe in G-O-D (ayy)
Don't believe in T-H-O-T
She keep playing me dumb (play me)
I'ma play her for fun (uh-huh)
Y'all don't really know my mental
Lemme give you the picture like stencil
Falling out, in a drought
No flow, rain wasn't pouring down (pouring down)
See, that pain was all around
See, my mode was kinda lounged
Didn't know which-which way to turn
Flow was cool but I still felt burnt
Energy up, you gon' feel my surge
I'ma kill everything like this purge (ayy)
Let's just get this straight for a second, I'ma work
Even if I don't get paid for progression, I'ma get it (uh, get it)
Everything that I do is electric
I'ma keep it in a motion (ayy, yeah)
Keep it moving like kinetic, ayy (yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)
Put this s**t in a frame, better know I don't blame
Everything that I say, man, I seen you deflate
Let me elevate, this ain't a prank
Have you walkin' on a plank, la-la-la-la-la, like
Both hands together, God, let me pray (now let me pray)
Uh, I've been going right, right around, call that relay (Masked Wolf)
Pass the baton, back to them all
Swimming in the pool, Kendrick Lamar, uh
Want a piece of this, a piece of mine, my peace a sign
Can you please read between the lines?
My rhyme's inclined to break your spine
They say that I'm so fine (fine)
You could never match my grind (true)
Please do not, not waste my time (Wolf)
What you know about rollin' down in the deep?
When your brain goes numb, you can call that mental freeze
When these people talk too much, put that s**t in slow motion, yeah
I feel like an astronaut in the ocean, ayy
What you know about rollin' down in the deep?
When your brain goes numb, you can call that mental freeze
When these people talk too much, put that s**t in slow motion, yeah
I feel like an astronaut in the ocean

SONG IN YOUR SOUL FRIDAY

It’s Friday, and for those of us in Southeast Oklahoma it is going to be a beautiful weekend. My soul is alive with happy, fast beats, and loud guitar riffs. I hope everyone gets out and celebrates this beautiful weather this weekend. Talk to a neighbor, do something in your community, lets come together.

Speaking of community and loving your neighbor, I am also inspired this Friday by the fact that it is almost mid-October and that means Blake Lynch is going to be one year older. I can’t think of a more fitting song this morning when I think about my friend and business partner than this classic by Bob Seger. It was 14 years ago this coming April that I took a shot and asked a young and extremely talented attorney to take a chance, gamble on his career and his soon-to-be new family and do something different. The rest is history.

So, here’s to the Ramblin and Gamblin’ Man, I know and love, Blake Lynch. Happy Birthday, Blake. Tomorrow is Blake’s actual birthday, and this should be no surprise, but he will be spending it at a Dancing Rabbit Music Festival Show. I understand he bought the first 100 tickets. A great band called Thlema and the Sleeze will be playing at DWNTWN 312 tomorrow night. I know that the best gift I could give to Blake for his birthday is to encourage all of you to join him tomorrow night to celebrate and celebrate the community he loves so much.

Have a great weekend everyone! I hope to see you tomorrow night and all weekend out and loving our community!

“Ramblin’ Gamblin’ Man”
The Bob Seger System

Lyrics

Yeah, I'm gonna tell my tale come on
Ah come on, ah, give a listen

'Cause I was born lonely down by the riverside
Learned to spin fortune wheels, and throw dice
I was just thirteen when I had to leave home
Knew I couldn't stick around, I had to roam
Ain't good looking, but you know I ain't shy
Ain't afraid to look a girl, yeah, in the eye
So if you need some lovin', and you need it right away
Take a little time out, and maybe I'll stay

But I got to ramble (ramblin' man)
Gamble (gamblin' man)
Ramble (ramblin' man)
I was born a ramblin' gamblin' man

Yeah, oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah, ha-ha, oh bring it on, calm down
Yeah alright, here we go now, now, now
I'm out of money, 'course you know I need some
Ain't gon' run on lovin', ha I must run
Gotta keep moving, never gonna slow down
You can have your funky world, see you around

'Cause I got to ramble (ramblin' man)
Oh I got to gamble (gamblin' man)
I got to ramble (ramblin' man)
Know I'm a ramblin' gamblin' man
Oh, oh, just a rambler
Yeah, yeah, I'm just a gambler
Come on and sing along, 'cause I'm just a rambler
Ramblin' man (Lord I'm a gambler)
Gamblin' man (I'm a rambler)
Ramblin' man (yeah, I'm a rambler)
Gamblin' man (ha-ha, yeah yeah I'm a rambler)

SONG IN YOUR SOUL FRIDAY

Today I am hitting the road and going back to the city I grew up in, Springfield Missouri. I am going back to attend a high school football game at Springfield Catholic High School. My graduating class is celebrating its 30 year reunion, and just getting ready to go to this game has been a nostalgia bomb for me.

I am reminded of my time thirty or so years ago when I spent my Friday getting ready to go out on what seemed like the biggest stage in the world, in front of what felt like the biggest and most raucous crowd in the world, to just play a game. Long before I ever paid any taxes, or had to qualify for a mortgage, I was just a kid from that had no idea what the world had in store for me.

This song was our walkout song my senior year. Not the song we walked out to on the field, but rather the last song playing in the locker room. I can see the young faces of my teammates, and I can smell the stale air inside that room. And then we walked.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone, especially those that will be indulging in some Friday Night Lights, tonight. RIP Dimebag Darrell.

“Walk”
Pantera

Lyrics

Can't you see I'm easily bothered by persistence?
One step from lashing out at you
You want in, to get under my skin and call yourself a friend
I've got more friends like you, what do I do?

Is there no
Standard anymore?
What it takes, who I am
Where I've been, belong

You can't be
Something you're not
Be yourself, by yourself
Stay away from me

A lesson learned in life
Known from the dawn of time

Respect
Walk, what did you say?
Respect
Walk, are you talkin' to me?

Are you talkin' to me?

Run your mouth when I'm not around
It's easy to achieve
You cry to weak friends that sympathize

Can you hear the violins playing your song?
Those same friends tell me your every word

Is there no
Standard anymore?
What it takes, who I am
Where I've been, belong

You can't be
Something you're not
Be yourself, by yourself
Stay away from me

A lesson learned in life
Known from the dawn of time

Respect
Walk, what did you say?
Respect
Walk, are you talkin' to me?
Respect
Walk, what did you say?
Respect
Walk, are you talkin' to me?

Are you talkin' to me?
No way, punk

Walk

Walk

Respect
Walk, what did you say?
Respect
Walk, are you talkin' to me?

Respect
Walk, what did you say?
Respect
Walk, ae you talkin' to me?

Are you talkin' to me?

Walk on home, boy

Walk
Walk
Walk
Walk

Walk
Walk
Walk

It was all smiles and love as this family became official, and all of the paperwork was signed, executed and filed. Congratulations to the Abshers and thank you for trusting Wagner & Lynch.

SONG IN YOUR SOUL FRIDAY

I am so sorry that I have been away and out of town the last couple of Fridays. So, you are probably thinking, “Brecken since you have been away you have probably been doing some deep reflection and today’s SIYSF is going to be all about feels and heavy emotions.” I have been doing a lot of deep reflecting and all of that good stuff, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that my soul and the music that is currently within it is going to just be a mirror of that. Because today I just wanted to share a song about the color yellow.

This is just a track about a color. It’s a flex track, and Gucci Mane wants us to know that he is so rich that he can live a single color lifestyle, which admittedly sounds strange. Also, I would share this song just because of the lyric “I’m smoking grits and selling chickens.”

Let’s kick this weekend off with some fun. C’mon, you know you want to. Turn it up and get on your feet! Happy weekend everyone!

WE LOVE BEING NUMBER ONE!

Today all of the employees at our McAlester office and little Mika (We love babies around here too, and she’s precious), gathered in front of the office for what has become an annual tradition. For the fifth year in-a-row Wagner & Lynch was voted the number one law firm by the readers of the McAlester News-Capital. Blake Lynch was voted as the number one attorney for the second year in-a-row. We want to thank all our clients, family, supporters and friends for all that they bring to us and drive us to be the best. We also want to thank all of you that voted for us. We are truly humbled and honored by this recognition.

Brecken, Blake, and Dillon (Our Attorneys) want to thank the amazing staff that you see pictured here, as well as the staff at our Wilburton Office. Without Randy, Tanya. Ashley, Bree, Brooklyn, Erica, Amanda (not pictured), and Maddie (not pictured), there is no way that we could deliver the excellence that we insist on for our clients every day. There is no way that we would ever be Number One if we didn’t have the incredible staff that we do.
If you or someone you love needs the help of an attorney, give us a call and find out why your neighbors have picked us to be number for the last half of a decade!

SONG IN YOUR SOUL FRIDAY

In 1986 Peter Gabriel released, “Sledgehammer.” It was one of those songs that not only soared up the radio charts but also had a huge impact on me as a very young MTV watcher. In ’86 MTV was still revolutionary; it gave the music industry a visual commodity in a world that had become visual through the advent of the television the generation before. This was one of those videos that you could not look away from. It seemed out of this world.

So, I’m feeling nostalgic, but the video itself is not the only thing about this song that is making me feel this way this morning. I’m nostalgic about what the song stands for as well. Listen to the lyrics, “I’m going to be the sledgehammer. This can be my testimony.” The protagonist in the song is telling the person he is talking to that he wants to be the thing that breaks through, the physical connection that overcomes what is emotionally keeping this person connecting to him. He’s asking her to dance! This song is about the need for physical connection. Sure, the subject here is obviously s*x, but that isn’t the only physical connection we need.

Today we have seeming lost the art of consensual physical touch and gathering physically to socialize. From what I’m reading this is also causing us, as a society to have less and less s*x, and leading to skyrocketing statistics on loneliness. The fact is that we need all this physical interaction, from s*x to shaking hands, to sitting across from one another at a bar and telling stories.

So, this weekend make it priority to get out. Meet a friend, ask someone on a date, or just go to something. In the words of the great and late Bob Weir of the grateful dead, “Get out there and love someone.” Happy weekend everyone!

(This is n HD version of the original video, and it’s so cool.)

“Sledgehammer”
Peter Gabriel

Lyrics

Hey, hey, you
Tell me how have you been?

You could have a steam train
If you just lay down your tracks
You could have an aeroplane flying
If you bring your blue sky back
All you do is call me
I'll be anything you need

You could have a big dipper
Going up and down, all around the bends
You could have a bumper car, bumping
This amusement never ends

I wanna be your sledgehammer
Why don't you call my name?
Wow! Oh, let me be your sledgehammer
This will be my testimony
Yeah (Yeah)

Show me 'round your fruit cage
'Cause I will be your honey bee
Open up your fruit cage
With that fruit that is sweet as can be

I wanna be your sledgehammer
Why don't you call my name?
Wow! You'd better call the sledgehammer
Put your mind at rest
I'm going to be the sledgehammer
This can be my testimony
Wow! I'm your sledgehammer
Let there be no doubt about it

Sledge, sledge
Sledgehammer

I get it right
I kicked the habit (Kicked the habit, kicked the habit)
Shed my skin (Shed my skin)
This is the new stuff (This is the new stuff)
I go dancing in (We go dancing in)
Oh, won't you show for me? (Show for me)
I will show for you (Show for you)
Hey, show for me, huh (Show for me)
I will show for you
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah, I do mean you (Show for me)
Only you
You been coming through (Show for you)
I'm gonna build that power
Build, build up that power, hah (Show for me)
Hah, I've been feeding the rhythm, huh
I've been feeding the rhythm (Show for you)
Gonna feel that power, hey, build in you (Show for me)
Hah, come on, come on, help me do
Come on, come on, help me do (Show for you)
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, you (Show for me)
I've been feeding the rhythm
I've been feeding the rhythm (Show for you)
It's what we're doing, doing
All day and night (Show for me)
Come on, come on, help me do
Come on, come on, help me do (Show for you)
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, you (Show for me)
I've been feeding the rhythm…
