Who Has Right Of Way On Bike?
When a cyclist is lawfully riding on the road in New Jersey, they are treated as traffic and must follow the same core right of way rules as motor vehicles. Joseph Ghabour explains that priority at intersections depends on factors such as who enters first, right side yield rules, and the duty of left turning drivers to yield to oncoming traffic, including bicycles. A key distinction also arises at crosswalks, where a cyclist riding is not treated the same as a pedestrian walking, which can change how right of way laws apply.
