After a hard fought trial against the City of Los Angeles and the LAPD--that lasted over a week-- the jury returned a verdict in our favor yesterday for $175,000. Justice was served and on to the next one.

Earlier this week a Federal Judge granted our Motion to Compel the depositions of the Police Chief Charlie Beck and Assistant Chief Villegas. One step closer to achieving justice in one of our civil rights cases.

Below is an article on the recent race discrimination lawsuit filed by Navab Law on behalf of an African-America Pleasant Valley State Prison Correctional Officer who on the day before the 2016 presidential election walked into the common office at the prison to find that a supervising Sergeant had placed a noose-- reminiscent of a dark era in our history where lynching of African Americans was sadly common place-- on his jacket with his name on it. This despicable act was clearly done to intimate and threaten my client and other African American's working at the prison. The same Sergeant had already been accused and sued successfully years before--while working at the same prison-- for using racial epithets and threats toward another African American employee and has admitted to others in the prison that he is a member of the Ku Klux Clan. How such a hateful and detestable person was (after the first incident) and still is employed by the prison is beyond belief.

A racist is running roughshod in a Central Valley prison, according to a new lawsuit filed by an African-American correctional officer.

Glenn family attorney Kaveh Navab criticized Lacey's decision, as well as the fact that the DA's office reviews officer-involved shootings.

"The DA’s office has a conflict of interest, in that they’re spineless when it comes to decisions like this," he said, adding, "we need an independent prosecutor that can really look at these cases independently and make a judgement."

Navab said the encounter with Glenn did not need to end with him getting shot.

"From the get-go they approached this in the wrong way," he said. "They escalated the situation. Office Proctor acted in an aggressive and violent fashion toward Mr. Glenn, and you can see that in the video that leads up to the shooting."

Justice was not served today. Nearly three years after the fatal shooting of Brendon Glenn, who was unarmed, D.A. Jackie Lacey announced today that no criminal charges would be filed against Officer Proctor. As one of the attorneys for the family, I must say I am shocked at the decision, particularly after Police Chief Beck stated early on that he believed criminal charges should be brought against Officer Proctor. Another spineless decision by the D.A's office.

Three years after an LAPD officer shot and killed Brendon Glenn near the Venice boardwalk, prosecutors reveal whether they will seek criminal charges.

Very tragic situation. Not sure how the jury could reach the verdict it did. He was clearly unarmed, was obeying the officers commands and pleading for his life to not to be shot.

The victim can be heard saying, "Please do not shoot me," on video released after the verdict.
