Checklist for getting robbed.
1.A) Talk to your lawyer. It should be noted that I'm a drunk guy in ohio and cannot legally give legal advice in any legal way to your personal legal situation.
1) The Castle Doctrine/Law may not apply in your state. As much as it seems like common sense, defending your home with deadly force may get you in deep, BOILING hot water in your state. LEARN THE LAWS IN YOUR STATE!
2) The police don't care. You might be the 9th robbery victim that the investigating officer has dealt with today. He's just as jaded with the minutiae of his job as you are. GET HIS NAME AND CARD. HE IS STILL THE OFFICER THAT YOU WILL DEAL WITH NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS.
3) You'll be doing the foot work. You're going to be the one stopping by the local pawn shops and checking serial numbers.
4) RECORD SERIAL NUMBERS. RECORD SERIAL NUMBERS. RECORD SERIAL NUMBERS. You should also record serial numbers and keep them somewhere safe.
5) Take pictures. If there are no serial numbers on your belongings or they were filed off by the perpetuater, a few pics of your items can come in handy. A couple pictures of unique scratches on a blade or stock could make all of the difference in the end.
