We're raising funds to provide school fees, tablets & clothing for 2 orphanages in Kathmandu, Nepal (https://gofund.me/491a36d2c ). These homes (the wonderful people who run them call them 'homes' because they see the children as a family, not orphans) provide a loving environment for children who would otherwise be on their own on the streets or worse yet, wouldn’t survive. Quite a few of these girls were simply left in the forest to die when their parents passed away in landslides, childbirth, etc. Girls are not considered to be valuable since they can’t work as porters so extended family are often uninterested in caring for them. But these two homes take these children into their family, feed and care for them & even pay for their school fees - literally, they give them hope for both the present as well as the future!
My twin 18-year-old daughters and I will be in Nepal visiting these two orphanages at the end of March (this is our 5th trip) and want to bring them:
1. Money for their school fees
2. Two tablets to help them do their schoolwork
3. A whole lot of clothes (it’s cold in Nepal and good clothes are expensive)
a. We’re getting lots of donations, but need money for the extra baggage fees
I can personally vouch for these two homes and the incredible, life-changing work they do with these children on a shoestring budget as we have been working with them for 23 years - but they are constantly barely getting by with all the expenses associated with raising 50+ children (35 girls in the all-girls home and 17 girls & boys in the other home). With your help we can make sure that all of the kids can continue with their education. Getting educated creates a double positive: 1) It allows the child to become self-sustaining as adults and 2) it allows many of them to significantly contribute to their communities and help others in need. For example, two of the young women that grew up in the all-girls home are nurses who served in the COVID ICUs in two different hospitals during the pandemic. Because of the training that their education provided them, they were able to help save lives with very minimal resources because they were so passionate about giving back to their community.
Here’s just a little about these two homes. The all-girls home has 35 girls while the New Vision Home has a total of 18 boys and girls. We first visited the all-girls home back in 2003 and were amazed by how smart and happy the girls were - their faces sparkled with the confidence of children that are well loved! Let me tell you about two of the girls:
- Prasanna was one of the older girls who didn’t let all the time she spent looking after her younger sisters stop her from excelling in school. She was only 10 when we visited in 2003, but is now happily married, has a wonderful daughter and is serving as a nurse to those in need (my wife and I donated $12,000 to send her to nursing school about 13 years ago and she is putting her training to good work). During COVID she would regularly lose 5 – 10 lbs. each shift as she had a hazmat suit, but the hospital had no air conditioning, but this didn’t stop her from showing up to work every day to help others.
- Anna is a fiercely determined young lady with jet black eyes and a wonderful smile. When we first visited in 2003, Anna was 6 had only been at the orphanage for less than two years (she had never been exposed to English before this). However, when we were visiting the children she came over to ask Monica how to spell ‘cauliflower’ because it was her favorite vegetable and she was writing a letter to her sponsor.

SCAM ALERT - Recently I've been getting calls from all over the US from people that have been contacted by scammers that are using the name of Davis Mediation and trying to scam money out of elderly and disabled clients saying that they are responsible for a debt or a payment in a civil suit or any number of other explanations. THIS IS NOTHING BUT A SCAM AND IT IS IN NO WAY RELATED TO DAVIS MEDIATION. DAVIS MEDIATION IS A ONE PERSON MEDIATION PRACTICE THAT DEALS EXCLUSIVELY WITH DIVORCE AND PARENTING ISSUES AND HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH DEBT COLLECTION, LITIGATION OR ANYTHING ELSE SO PLEASE DO NOT EVEN RETURN THESE SCAMMERS CALLS.

BOOKS & WEBSITES FOR A CHILD-FOCUSED DIVORCE - This video provides numerous helpful resources to help minimize the impact of divorce on children. The parental resources help parents keep their focus on their children’s well-being and suggest ways to help them support their children during this transition. The children’s resources explain the divorce process in language they can understand and provide ways to deal with the uncertainty that they’re experiencing.

SOUTH BAY THERAPIST PARTY – Our next big party will be from 4 - 7 PM on Fri, Sept 29 at Tower 12 Restaurant (53 Pier Ave, Hermosa Beach) at the Hermosa Beach Pier. This is a casual get-together of therapists to socialize, get out of our offices and celebrate/commiserate the incredible work that you all do! Those of you who joined us previously know what a good time we have at these casual, but very lively get-togethers so come join us for free appetizers and lots of warm South Bay hospitality. No need to RSVP, just show up and have fun.

We had an absolutely incredible trip to Nepal including a week of wild whitewater rafting in a remote region and spending lots of time with the girls & boys from the two children’s homes. Thanks to many of you, we raised $5000 towards school fees (which covers 2 years of school fees for the smaller orphanage of 18 kids) and took 270 pounds of donated clothes! It was wonderful spending time with all of these children - my family even took 9 of the girls from the English-speaking children’s home on a mini-holiday (2 days/1 night) to the foothills outside Kathmandu and had a wonderful time hiking, playing games and getting to know these girls better. They are all such strong, confident girls and young ladies at this point that you forget that they came from the untouchable caste and were formally orphans (none of them are orphans now because they are part of one big family). Then we celebrated Easter Sunday with these Christian sisters & brothers - pretty incredible that we can be on the opposite side of the world and share such joyful times with those that we have come to look at as family!

We finally finished packing all of the clothes that everyone donated packed up. Thanks to generous folks throughout the South Bay, we will be taking 260 lbs of donated clothing to the two orphanages in Kathmandu. That's in addition to the $4,600 ($2600 donated on GoFundMe + our $2,000 matching) for school fees for the next 2 years. Thank you to everyone that graciously contributed towards school fees and donated clothes!

We're halfway to our goal of $3000 for school fees for our orphan friends in Nepal. My family will be matching the first $2000 so anything you give is doubled up to this point (if we can get to $4000 total that will pay the school fees for 20 children for one year!).
We're hoping to help them out with school fees (one of the orphanage’s funding in the US dropped significantly during COVID & they’re having trouble covering the children’s school fees) as well as a couple tablets for schoolwork & lots of secondhand clothing. My wife, our girls and I will be headed to Nepal at the end of March to visit the two orphanages that we help support in Kathmandu. Many of you have heard me tell stories about these wonderful children, especially the girls at the all-girls home where we’ve been involved since 2003, and how much we’ve enjoyed spending time with them on our visits to Kathmandu (the first time we met many of these girls was in 2003 - 20 years ago). It’s incredible to think that some of these ‘girls’ are now full-grown women and impacting their communities in such a positive way (both Prasanna and Alisha are nurses & spent months working in COVID ICUs during the pandemic often with limited PPE – after Alisha got COVID herself she was back at work the very next day after they cleared her)! And even more incredible when you consider that several of these girls were literally left out in the forest to die when one or both of their parents passed away - then the woman that they call ‘Oma’ (the German woman who has been the driving force behind funding and organizing the orphanage) swooped in to rescue these girls.
We want to help them out with school fees (one of the orphanage’s funding in the US dropped significantly during COVID & they’re having trouble covering the children’s school fees) as well as a couple tablets for schoolwork & lots of secondhand clothing. No matter what your position is on war, whether you’re a Republican or Democrat, a liberal or conservative, we all benefit from their sacrifice and live a life of unparalleled freedom based on their bravery and willingness to put their lives on the line! GOD BLESS EACH & EVERY ONE OF YOU!!!

There are so many reasons that we need to continue to ACTIVELY SUPPORT THE UKRAINIAN PEOPLE, but here are two of the most important ones:
1. THEY ARE INNOCENT IN ALL OF THIS - contrary to Russian lies and propaganda, the Ukrainian people did not do anything to provoke this horrendous act of aggression & yet civilians, women and children, are suffering so egregiously. CNN interviewed a woman in Mariupol who had only been out of her basement bunker two times in 28 days because she had heard about so many Russian soldiers ra**ng any Ukrainian woman that they found. Children and teens have seen their parents die in front of their eyes as they are trying to protect them or get them to safety in western Ukraine. Someone has to stand up to this evil so that we at least limit the number of innocents that continue to be killed!
2. THIS IS THE FIGHT OF OUR LIFETIME - Putin has been bullying and attacking other sovereign nations with relative impunity for decades now and if he is not firmly and completely stopped in Ukraine he will continue to do so. Additionally, China is absolutely looking at this situation to determine how the West will respond if they choose to invade Taiwan. This isn’t just some fight in a faraway land - this is the fight that will determine the trajectory of democratic nations and freedom versus autocracy for decades to come.
ALL OF US need to do everything we can through giving to organizations that are helping the Ukrainian people, writing our US senators & congress members and anything else can be helpful. We need to take the stand not only because these people so deserve our help, but because we are taking a stand that evil aggression and pure greed/ego can not and will not prevail so that our children and our grandchildren don’t grow up in a world where autocracy, oppression & false propaganda rule the day!
