Steve Gokberk knew from the time he was 15 years old that he wanted to be an attorney. A class in American Civil Law taught by a great teacher sparked his interest and inspired him to join his high school mock trial team. “The cases we were studying all related to torts and personal injury and the idea of helping people to right wrongs resonated with me right from the start, and from that moment I directed all my future studies toward law.”

Steve has never strayed from his pursuit of the law and making a difference in peoples’ lives, keeping on that path into college at St. John's University where he pursued pre-law studies and served as the president of the legal society. As president, Steve helped to organize volunteering opportunities for the group, including organizational help with an American Breast Cancer walk at St. Johns that traveled along Queens Blvd. John's Law, Steve did a full year externship with the New York Legal Assistance Group, a not-for-profit that provides free civil legal services to New Yorkers who cannot afford a private lawyer. While there, Steve handled initial case intake and other pre-trial work. He also assisted adult victims of domestic violence in court to help them attain temporary orders of protection and assisted in visitation matters prior to their case being handled by a lawyer. Steve’s exceptional work there earned him the CALI Excellence for the Future Award® for both semesters. The CALI Award is given to the highest scoring student in each law school class at many law schools. Mentors

I had the opportunity to co-present with and Kally Konstantinidis, Esq., Principal Law Clerk, Queens Supreme, on the subject of notices of claim for the . These notices are required to pursue claims against municipal entities that may be responsible for their negligence. The course highlighted the basics of these notices, as well as the complex issues that may arise from them.
