If you received a notice that your local property tax assessor was hitting your New Jersey real estate with an added assessment, you have the right to challenge the assessment. However, the deadline to appeal most increases is rapidly approaching. The cutoff is December 1st in most cases.

These added assessments are one of the most misunderstood and misapplied taxing mechanisms, and they can come as a shock, particularly for new owners.
