STUDENT LOAN FORGIVENESS & DISABILITY
DO YOU have federal student loan debt? ARE YOU totally and permanently disabled? Read on.
Did you know that, so long as your Federal Student Aid (FSA) data and your Social Security Administration (SSA) or Veterans Administration (VA) disability data match, your federal student loans and Teach Grant obligations are eligible to be AUTOMATICALLY DISCHARGED if you have been determined by the SSA or VA to be totally and permanently disabled or unemployable.
But what if your data between these departments doesn’t match? What if you didn’t receive notice that you are eligible for the automatic discharge? Then you must apply for the discharge yourself. The process has been streamlined and can be submitted online. And while you go through the application process, you might be able to pause your student loan payment obligation for up to 120 days.
Links to obtain more information and about where and how to apply for the disability discharge can be found in comments to this post.
