On October 27th, Mercer Law’s Business, Bankruptcy & Tax Law Society (“BBTLS”) was honored to host Chief Judge Smith, Judge Carter, and Clerk of Court Kyle George from the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Middle District of Georgia. They came to the law school to share their extensive experiences in bankruptcy law during a “Lunch & Learn” panel moderated by our own Professor Kundawala. Members of BBTLS and other law students learned so much about this exciting practice area from the experts themselves. It was a packed house - thanks again to all who participated in and attended this wonderful event! Thanks also to Dean Sneddon for her generous support of these programs.

Michael Marshall, 2L - “I am interested in practicing in this area, especially in Bankruptcy and business litigation based on my experience either in the classroom or through my internship over the summer. As 2L Rep, I will strive to best represent my peers and foster as much involvement in BBTLS as possible!”

Allison Cartwright, 1L - “As a class representative for this newly founded student organization, I would promote growth and relevance on campus and within the Macon community. The ABA states, “transactional law deals with what people do, rather than what they think.” Bringing over 10 years of experience in the areas of banking, insurance, and investing, I have honed my skills at caring for both what people think and what they do.”

Adelaide Bottomley, 1L - “I would be honored to play an important role in communication between BBTLS and the Class of 2025. As I have experience as a class representative prior to attending Mercer, my goal is to ensure the highest quality of learning and networking opportunities through BBTLS. If given the opportunity, I will combine and enhance my leadership, listening and communication skills to effectively advocate on behalf of my peers.”

Carah Jones, 1L - “I want to run for BBLTS 1L Class Representative because I value the relative newness of this club, and I plan to focus my legal career in the business sector. I’m passionate about the legislative process and intrigued about how business, bankruptcy, and tax-related statutes affect this area of law. Recruiting presenters and researching topics of interest would be a couple of my priorities as a 1LRep in BBLTS.”

Cali Campbell, 1L - “As a recent graduate of the Terry College of Business at UGA, I have a strong passion for business law. I believe that I am a great candidate for 1L representative for BBTLS because I am a strong leader that has exceptional communication skills with previous experience in executive leadership positions. As 1L representative, I would work to unite the interests of my 1L classmates and the goals of BBTLS.”
