This is scary. There are only three places in Lubbock where I know that people are still staying in large groups, hospitals, nursing homes, and the jail. It could go off like a bomb if it hits the jail here. We need to work on releasing inmates in Lubbock on bonds or it could be a disaster.
If you are not a person that cares about the inmate population, first, you should probably change your heart. Many of these people are being held on misdemeanors or nonviolent offenses and they have families of their own.
But if that's not compelling, you should think about jail staff and their families being exposed, attorneys and thier families being exposed, and the fact that cost of caring for inmates diagnosed with COVID-19 will passed along to the taxpayers.
Seven inmates at the Dallas County Jail have now tested positive for COVID-19.
