đź“© Receiving a notice that your Medicare Advantage plan is ending can be unsettling. But it does not mean you will suddenly be left without Medicare coverage.

What it does mean is that you may have some important—and time-sensitive—decisions to make.

If your plan is ending, it is important to consider:

• When your current coverage ends
• Whether another Medicare Advantage plan fits your needs
• How your doctors and prescriptions will be covered
• Whether you need separate prescription drug coverage
• Whether you may have special rights to purchase Medigap coverage

And while Medicare decisions matter today, they can also be an important reminder to think about tomorrow. Medicare generally does not cover extended long-term care, making future care and Medicaid planning an important part of the bigger picture.

Knowing your options early can help you make thoughtful decisions instead of rushed ones.

🎙️ Episode 11 of Second Half Conversations is here.

How much could long-term care really cost—and how would you pay for it?

In “The Real Cost of Long-Term Care: What Families Need to Know,” Sondra Ziegler takes a practical look at the financial side of long-term care, from home care and assisted living to nursing home care.

She explores why care costs are rising so quickly, what Medicare does and does not cover, and the different ways families may be able to prepare—from insurance and personal savings to Medicaid and certain veterans benefits.

Sondra also shares how the Cost of Care Calculator on the Ziegler Estate Law Group website can help families explore current costs in their own area and project what care could cost in the future.

Because the biggest risk may not be needing care. It may be waiting until a crisis happens to start planning for it.

🎙️ The Nest Is Empty. Now What? Part 2

Your children are building lives of their own. Your parents may be needing more support. And somewhere in between, you’re figuring out what you want the next chapter of your own life to look like.

In Episode 10 of Second Half Conversations, Sondra Ziegler continues her conversation with Kate Hamilton, author of The Imperfect Parent.

Together, they explore how to navigate difficult conversations with aging parents, respect their wishes even when you may disagree, strengthen communication in your marriage, and become more intentional about the legacy you want to leave behind.

They also discuss a simple shift that can change the way we relate to the people we love: ask more questions, stay curious, and assume the best.

Because the second half of life isn’t about getting everything perfect. It’s about deciding how you want to live it.

🏠 Buying a home is more than a financial milestone. It is also an important estate planning moment.

Your home may become one of your most valuable assets, but simply owning it does not guarantee that it will be managed or transferred according to your wishes.

After purchasing a new home, it may be time to review:
• How the property is titled
• Whether it should be included in a trust
• Who can manage financial decisions if you become unable to do so
• Whether your Beneficiary Designations are still up to date
• How your loved ones can avoid unnecessary confusion or delays

A thoughtful estate plan helps ensure that your new home is not only protected today but properly planned for in the future.
