Any lawyer or judge will tell you that our favorite days are days like these: when found and chosen families are officially recognized by the court system. I am so proud to have been a part of working to change Jake’s last name to one that helps him feel more at home. Truly at its finest.

Your Honor, I am requesting to change my name from Jake Walker to Jake Alexander to honor my stepfather, Neal, who has been my caregiver and mentor. This is in my best interest because of the way he has raised me. Even when he is tired from work, he takes me to practice every time and makes sure I am fed and prepared for school. He has even driven me out of town to Dallas multiple times just so I could pursue my dreams. He has provided for our family and taught me what it means to be a man of integrity. This change represents my true identity and my desire to carry the name of the person I consider my father. Finally, Your Honor, I want to state for the record that this request is made in good faith.

Earlier this week in our “West Texas Lawyers at West Texas Courthouses” series, Kristen (and Becca, ever-helpful law clerk!) handled some probate and real-estate work in Muleshoe at the Bailey County Courthouse. They were rewarded with the obligatory lunch at the original Leal’s as well, of course! Big thanks to County Judge Basil Nash for always being so accommodating!

Meanwhile, Craig and his crew managed and handled some real-estate issues at the Andrews County Courthouse and then enjoyed lunch on the square!

Here at we’re so grateful for the flexibility to take our kiddos with us as we work across West Texas, helping and serving our West Texas neighbors! We love to expose them to our brand and purpose of efficient and compassionate service and communication. You know you’ve got a great team in us.
