EXCITING ANNOUNCEMENT: On April 1, 2025, Shewmaker & Corman at Law, PLLC will open a satellite law office at the Johnson-Britton House in historic Perryville, Kentucky. We plan on holding in-person office hours on the first Thursday of each month, with other hours by appointment.

This office will allow us to better serve our clients in Boyle County and central Kentucky more broadly. Our Partner and Co-Founder, Jordan Shewmaker, grew up in Perryville and is excited to open a law office and give back to his hometown.

Update: Yesterday, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit lifted a nationwide injunction, allowing the Corporate Transparency Act ("CTA") to be enforced while lawsuits concerning its constitutionality continue. The CTA requires certain business entities, including LLCs, to report information regarding beneficial owners of the business. Contact our firm if you have questions or concerns regarding the CTA or any other business compliance questions. We are here to help.

A federal appeals court on Monday lifted an order blocking the nationwide enforcement of an anti-money laundering law that requires corporate entities to disclose the identities of their real beneficial owners, to the U.S. Treasury Department.

A federal court recently found the Corporate Transparency Act (CTA) unconstitutional and enjoined its enforcement nationwide. What is the CTA and how does it potentially impact you? The CTA is an anti-money laundering/anti-fraud statute that requires all US business entities (including LLCs) to report ownership and other information to the federal government. It is unclear what will happen next or how the federal government will respond. Please be aware of this jury scam where someone calls and says you missed jury duty and have a warrant. If you have any questions about jury duty, please call your local Circuit Court Clerk.

The jury scam is making rounds again. Multiple callers received a call from a person who claimed to be Lt. Boyd with the Boyle County Sheriff’s Office. The call came from 859-577-8384 and was identified as a spam risk.

The BCSO will never call you about missing jury duty, active warrants or demanding payment. DO NOT give out any personal info and hang up immediately! If you have questions about jury duty please call me at 859-239-7442.

The caller has a voicemail set up on the number above and I am waiting for “Lt. Boyd” to return my call.
